I don't know if it was just one post, but if you don't have permission and no matter what language you translate it to, that is plagiarism.
Even if you have their permission, Google is very good at translation so they are likely to know if this has been posted somewhere before.
You really need to be creating unique content rather than relying on what has already been said somewhere else before. This is not a practice that is good for SEO.

Hi Dave,
You are right to look at cross-domain canonical to resolve this. This is absolutely what it is intended for. Google gives you more guidance on how to ensure this is done correctly, here.
Will it affect anything else? Well, it shouldn't, but a little due diligence after the work has been completed will help confirm all is OK. An audit of the two sites will help you to see that everything is mapped correctly.

This is a very subjective question Mark.
For example, if you work in a highly technical market, it could be assumed that you are going to need more content than normal to explain processes, technical features and research. However, if you are writing a sales page, you would need less content as you want to get your messages across with big call-to-action type messages and supporting content.
I would certainly also look at competition in the market and see what those who rank well, do. This can only really be used as a guide, but it can give you an idea.
Some say that the average page should be no less than 250 characters - others say no more than 750. There is no right or wrong answer, but you do need to focus on making it as comprehensive as possible.

What they are doing there is something that is very much against Google's TOS and isn't something I would advise anyone try to perform. I would say that this is something that will catch up with them at some point and they will get a kick from Google for their trouble.
Content spinning is never going to be a long-term solution but what I would suggest, is having a watch of MOZ's recent Whiteboard Friday by Rand.
Longevity for any SEO campaign will come from a great user experience, great unique content and not going against Google's TOS.

This is basically reciprocal linking and will do very little for you. The odd one is OK, but if Google saw too much of this, it could make them wonder why every inbound link, has another pointing back again.
I would avoid it, unless there is a very good reason to do it. They tend to be ignored or do very little for you - focus on one-way links, and don't be tempted to go for any pyramid / triangular linking opportunities.

Hi Simon,
You are seeing the same as lots of others at the moment - many of my own clients have noticed impacts as well - especially so if you get a local result that has 4 ads, then 3 local results, and Google testing ads within the local pack as well. Soon 1st place organic will be 2nd page!
I'm not saying this is what is going to be causing your issues, but it is likely and without looking into this in more detail, it's hard to say what else might be causing you issues.

Personally, I would go with something more like www.lasvegaswrappers.com (which is available).
Or www.wrapvegas.com... Something that is less of a mouthful and will probably be easier for people to remember.

Hi,
It takes time for OSE to keep spidering sites so if you are seeing something from a couple of months ago, but the link has gone, then you don't need to do anything else. It will get back round to spidering those sites again and will update.
However, if you are concerned that links on spammy sites keep reappearing, then you would do well to disavow it, but other than that, no need to worry. Google isn't going to crawl at the same intervals as MOZ do, so as long as you are ensuring these links are gone, then you are doing everything you need.

There have been some interesting articles surfacing recently on this with the last study I read (this week) showing that simply updating the date with "Last Updated" and updating the article, refreshed something that was a year old and that had dropped from the first page to the second, and had reached position 1 again.
This is definitely something that anyone with a blog should look to do.

Authority links are those which will be regarded more highly in the eyes of Google, have been gained through ethical means and serve to benefit you. What an authority link looks like is going to change from site to site though. It is just a link from one site to another - it just happens to be from a site that is seen as an authority in their particular field.

The two do use very different algorithms, but there isn't as much kicking around for Bing as there is Google, for obvious reasons.
In terms of tracking keywords in Bing, check out Accuranker, because you can differentiate.
I would also sign up to Bing Webmaster Tools (if you don't already) and have a look through the set of tools they offer. Diagnostic Tools might be a good place to start, as would the SEO Analyzer.
Other than that, there isn't an awful lot more that I can suggest because I only really focus on Google. I have always found that if a site does well in Google, it almost always does well in Bing as well. However, have a read through their Webmaster Guidelines as well.

Are these actual additional businesses, or just services that you run?
There is no harm whatsoever in using one address and having multiple businesses running from there. Look at any serviced or office complex that has multiple different businesses running from there. Google won't penalise on this.
So if you have Daycare Services Ltd running from Golds Gym, then it is still a registered location. The fact that there are unrelated services at the same address isn't an issue at all.

If you want to setup a company page in Wikipedia, make sure you have lots of reliable sources that you can cite before you start. Lack of these will prevent the page from being accepted.
The links do add value though. I have been adding links into Wikipedia for some time now and have seen noticeable jumps in the SERPs for my clients. Wikipedia, and other similar sources, are where I always start a link building campaign.
Just be careful how you do it because someone will come and check the link to make sure it isn't an obvious attempt at just gaining a link for SEO purposes.

I have seen recoveries in 6-8 weeks and others have reported it taking 8-12 months - so there and anywhere inbetween.
No hard and fast rules for this one I'm afraid because it depends wholly upon Google visiting a site and applying the necessary flags.

My own preference is to try and add folders as with the second option because for visuals, it is easier to see where you are.
In terms of SEO benefit, it is unlikely one will give you more than another. This will be predominately dominated by your content and paying attention to basics (Meta, etc.)

Your assumption about duplicate / similar content appears to be well founded. Just to test a sample, I took the following snippet from this page, and searched in Google:
"Acacia House sits in Ol Chorro Losoit Valley, within the Lemak Hills"
Google returns 4 pages, so yes, there are issues here - and it isn't as straight forward as canonicalisation to fix as this can mean other pages could miss out on a chance to be indexed and returned. However, what you can't tell, is to what degree Google is objecting to these kids of issues. Some say that Google is smart enough to understand what a snippet is, and won't penalise based on this - others disagree. Myself, I try to ensure my clients have unique content on each page and always err on the side of caution.
I also took a snippet from itinerary here and did the same - this time it came back with 5 different pages.
My opinion is that yes, you do have problems that need to be rectified. I know this was only a very quick look, but I shouldn't be seeing so many pages with the same snippets of content in Google. The odd one you can get away with, but I bet I would find lots.
How many unique pages with content like this do you think you have?
