Just here to add some to Will almost complete answer: The 'site:' often shows results that won't be displayed in Google search results and don't represent the entirely nor precisely the pages that are indexed. I'd suggest to you: 1- If those pages are already serving 404 or 410, then wait for a little. Google won't show them in search results and eventually won't be seen in a site: search. You can check whether those URLs are being shown in searches through search console. 2- There is a script made by a webmaster that helps you using the GSC URL removal tool for a big list of URLs. Please, use it carefully and try it first within a riskless GSC property Hope it helps. Best luck. Gaston

Hello Rachel, It could be negative linkbuilding, also could be that some automated pages are creating those links without restrictions. I would worry that much. On one hand, Google (though their spokesman) said that the algorithm is pretty good finding and diminishing the strength of spammy links. So, if you talk to someone from Google right now, they might said: leave them, probably the algorithm will consider those as spammy and there will be no harm. On the other hand, If you are absolutely sure that those links are spammy and malicious... then go ahead and disavow them. Remember that it's possible to disavow an entire domain. Hi Ruth, Thanks for your help! Each tag is on a separate location page and uses static JSON-LD markup in tag manager.

We contacted Majestic but no change from them. The backlink actually got removed from the offending site.  Good to see our trust flow has gone up again.  We had a client who was getting pitches from another seo company so I suspect they might have added this link temporarily and then removed it - crazy ethics!
