If possible, I would set up a several page site with good content on the new domain and start building links to it. I think that would look less strange than a 302 redirect.

I would say that it's a very minor issue, but given the choice I would probably remove them.

RE: How can we efficiently use Fresh Web Explorer and Just Discovered Links?
Hi Tela,
Thanks for the reply. I'm a bit surprised more users haven't been asking for a feature like this.
I think it would be great for doing outreach to sites where your competitors just got a link within the past week - strike while the iron is hot.I've been doing a bit of this, but the current interfaces make it a bit time consuming.

Main thing I want is to be able to quickly view recent links (preferably from both sources) to a bunch of competitor URLs, in one location (without having to run multiple reports). This could be accomplished by a campaigns type tool, RSS feeds, an API, etc.

How can we efficiently use Fresh Web Explorer and Just Discovered Links?
Love the fresh data sources SEOmoz is building for us. However, I'm frustrated by the lack of scale the tools offer.
Let's say I have 30 competitors I want to watch (which is pretty conservative - if we're targeting 100 keywords on a site, we could easily have 100's of top 20 ranked competitors). If I have to run individual reports for each using OSE and Fresh Web Explorer, that would be hours of work every day/week.
Ideally, I'd like to see a campaign feature where you could add 2-200 competitors to view in one report. You could view recent links (from FWE and JDL) for all competitors on one handy report, and sort by various metrics. So for example, if you wanted to view the top 10 links your competitors have gotten in the past week, you could see that in 30 seconds of work, vs many hours of work.
Any others who think this would be useful?
Any ideas for how we can use the data in such a way without this feature?

RE: Mapping URLS - Zen Cart to Open Cart
I would switch the OpenCart URLs to something more static/search friendly first.

RE: How long before I give up on a keyword
No, there is no rule of thumb. It's all about your goals, budget, patience, requirements, etc.

RE: Best practice to avoid cannibalization of internal pages
If you want the category page to rank for the keyword instead of an individual game page:
- Make sure the category page is well-optimized for that keyword
- Have all the game pages link to the category page (i.e. use breadcrumbs)
- Ensure the category page is linked to from the homepage
- Consider reducing the optimization of the game page(s) for the particular keyword
Without seeing the actual site and pages, that's all I can think of at the moment.

RE: Most significant link building factor
It's true that number of unique linking root domains is important. It's true that multiple links from a domain won't help as much as links from new domains.
But there are a ton of metrics that matter - relevance, trust, authority, anchor text, etc. So I'm not sure "unique linking root domains" is the single most important factor. It's definitely important, though, and correlates well with Google rankings: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/announcing-the-march-mozscape-index

RE: Do contextual links hold more weight?
I suspect that at least one of these statements is true to some extent:
- Contextual/in-content links have a little more weight than byline links
- Contextual/in-content links have more contextual relevance than byline links
- Contextual/in-content links are slightly less likely to be penalized or filtered than byline links
I can't prove my suspicions, and I'm not suggesting that byline links are all bad (far from it), but we know for a fact that Google takes "location on the page" in consideration now when calculating PageRank. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0fgh5RIHdE

RE: Domain and Sitemap Question
Having separate URLS/domains for your mobile site is OK, but not ideal. See https://developers.google.com/webmasters/smartphone-sites/details If possible, I would switch to a responsive design.
Otherwise, make sure you've setup the meta tags as recommended in the above URL.

RE: SEO for New Web Site Launch
Creating an entire marketing and branding strategy is far beyond the scope of a simple Q&A thread. I would suggest hiring an hourly consultant to assist you in creating a strategy.

RE: Is my SEO Strategy is good to rank ?
Sorry, but no. That's not a good strategy - using it will put your website at risk for being penalized.
You want to pursue "editorial links" or "earned links". Usually, this means links where a website editor/webmaster chooses to link to your site because your content is so good.
Some suggestions:
- Identify authority blogs in your industry that accept guest posts.
- Submit your site to a few industry directories with high editorial standards.
- Focus on creating and promoting exceptional content (linkbait) that showcases your industry expertise
- Build relationships that make lead to link opportunities
- Be creative

RE: Working with Wine & Spirits - SEO
- If you're looking for an SEO to start the process and show you what to do, you'll need more than 20 hours per month to implement a serious SEO strategy.
- I have worked with a couple food/wine/luxury type sites, but I think industry experience is less important than other factors. SEO tactics are mostly the same across industries, and the goal is to showcase your industry expertise, not the SEO company's. I'm not saying industry experience isn't helpful, but it's definitely not the most important thing you should look for in a company. Probably the most important thing you should look for is a SEO company that does SEO by delivering value to users, and aims to pursue the spirit, not just the letter of Google's guidelines.
- My company, and many other good SEO companies, are happy to provide hourly consulting services. You just pay for as much or as little as you want.
I know this answer doesn't directly answer your question, but I hope it is helpful in some way!

RE: How much margin do you add when estimating client projects?
Do you have a specific % you use when over-estimating for small clients, or do you just go by "feel"? We've tended to do the latter, but are trying to be more disciplined about it.

How much margin do you add when estimating client projects?
After you calculate how many hours you need to complete a marketing project for a client, how much extra do you add for project management, communication, all the little things that come up, unexpected problems, client questions, etc.?
One resource I read said to add 10% to 20% for project management, then add 25% to 33% more for fluctuations, then state a +/-15% margin of error on the estimate. I was wondering what percentages others use when estimating client projects.

RE: E-commerce site, one product multiple categories best practice
Option 1 is not cloaking - it is displaying content dynamically. Cloaking would be if you showed one page to viewers and a different version to Googlebot.
I would say it depends on how different pages are. If all that changes in the breadcrumbs, they I would say you're fine with options 1, 2, or 4.
If the pages are significantly different, such as different category names, page titles, descriptive text, etc. I would go with option 4.

RE: E-commerce site, one product multiple categories best practice
Options 1, 2, or 4 should be fine. Option 3 is not recommended.

RE: 'Too many on-page links': doesn't add up...
Hi Felix,
Having more than 100 links on a page is usually not a problem, as long as you're not doing anything shady (it doesn't sound like you are). See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6g5hoBYlf0
Keep in mind that PageRank flows by being divided among each link on the page - so having more links means less PageRank flows to each one.
If you can provide one of the URLs, I can provide more detailed input.
