      Hi Everyone,

I have a question of how the on-page links are being counted. Say you have a page with a warning of having too many on page links (100+). How are all of these links counted? Let's say there are only 5 links on that page. Do the links on each of those pages count too and so on and so forth?

I just want to make sure I have wrapped my head around this correctly.

      Thanks!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think on-page links means literally that: links on that page.

So it does not mean links on your website or links on the pages that are linked from the checked page.

That's how I understand it as well, but this is the part I am a bit confused about:

"In addition, search engine algorithms divide the value of some popularity metrics by the amount of links on a given page. This means that each of the pages being linked to from a given page are also affected by the number of links on the linking page."

I definitely don't have 100 plus links on my pages, but I am being told that I do. What am I missing?

            Thanks!

The more links you have on one page the less PR is passed to each page linked to. 10 links means each link will get 1/10th of the link juice. 100 links means each page linked to will get 1/100th of that PR, for example.

I don't know why a site would have more than 100 links on a single page, unless it's a directory listing or something, but Google should spider the whole damn page regardless of the number of links. Back in the days I think they spidered 100 links or so and then moved on, but nowadays they keep crawling I've been told. They want to find EVERYTHING on the web these days so they can give the best search results possible.
