Do you get link equity from a redirect service?

When using a redirect service, do you get link equity from the redirect service or only from the linking website?
Using opensite explorer in Moz, always shows me directory and redirect services as most important contribution for the domain authority. But I'm questioning if this is true.
P.S. I'm not asking if link equity is passed from the linking website. That question has been answered many many many times. (hint: the answer is yes).

Hi Arnold,
I haven't seen anything recently that would suggest that a URL shortened URL would pass anything useful along, but this does depend on the service, and something I don't have an immediate answer for.
Have a read here for a little more info on this though.

Hi there

Well, here is my thought:
- Let's say you had a domain old-domain.com with bunch of good backlinks;
- You got rebranded (or whatever) and got new domain new-domain.com;
- You did a 301 domain redirect from old domain to new domain (which is a well known good practice and recommended by everyone, since, as we know, 301 pass goodies along);
- Would it count now that you have a backlink (any benefit) from your old domain?
I don't think so. Otherwise everyone would buy 10000 domains and did 301 redirects from them to their main domain, right? So, to me it seems that shorteners have the same logic.
Hope it makes sense
