Self linking article

Every article on SearchEngineLand is self linked by it's title on H1 tag. I want to ask you if there is a SEO ranking benefit from it.

I saw another sites that practice this tactic.

I don't believe it would help with SEO (otherwise authority would flow in an infinite loop) and it is poor UX.

My guess is that they do this because they get scraped, and scrapers also often leave in the links, but I'll ask and see if I can get an answer.
