      Hi,

How long does it take for a 301 redirect to pass PR/Juice to the new domain it's redirecting to?

From what I understand you tell Google in Webmaster tools this domain is now going to this domain and then setup a file on the old domains hosting to redirect to the new.

      And that's it!

If that is correct how long does it take? 2 days, 2 weeks, months, maybe never???

      Cheers

        Hi there,

This is quite a tricky question and, unfortunately doesn't have a definite answer.

As long as you have set up the 301 redirect in your .htaccess file correctly and have informed Google, then this is all you can do. From here, it will depend on when Google next crawls your website (this differs per website). It could be today, tomorrow, next week, next month...

There are ways that you can get Google to crawl your site more often though. Add regular content to your website, submit a sitemap and keep it updated, etc.

At this point though, it is a waiting game.

Hope this has cleared things up,

        Matt.

          Check List:

          1. Move old content to the new domain
          2. 301 as many pages to the same content on the new domain as possible
          3. Submit a change of address through Google Webmaster Tools
          4. Contact site owners that give you high quality incoming links, request they change the links from the old site to the new site (personal preference)
          5. Keep building new high quality links to your site's content level pages.

          Note:

If it's a brand new domain, Google is going to put your site through about a three month trial period before it accurately ranks you. From my understanding it's done to help prevent spam.
