Outbound links
-
Hi there, i know inbound links are what hold the main value in terms of link building but if i have an inbound link from a big company such as ITV or BBC and they have put an article on their site linking back to mine, would it be beneficial if i made a comment on my site and then link back to their article or will this not really help? Sorry as you can tell im very new to seo!
thanks anthony

Link profiles are all about looking natural and that is what Google is looking for especially after Penguin. If it is natural and beneficial to your visitors to link back to the big company then do so, as this will help your link profile in the eyes of the search engines.

Outbound linking to credible sources is important. However, if your linked page is linking to the same page that's linking back to you, I think that would look like a 1 to1 recip link (albeit with an authoritative site) to the algos. If it's a great article, I would write a separate blog entry letting your customers know that you were mentioned on BBC with a link to the article.
Like Matt said, it should always be helpful to your reader. I'm not sure that two pages linking to each other in an endless loop is helpful.
That's my two cents (or pence if you're accross the pond).
