  • Hi Faye - It's unclear from your question whether these are all the same jacket that's available in different colors or if you have a variety of brands offering jackets of each different color. I also can't tell if you're referring to only 1 URL or if you plan to have each jacket on a different URL. I would caution against having a bunch of different URLs targeting KWs only differentiated by their color. For one, a Panda penalty is possible - your site's pages may appear spammy in the same way a bunch of pages for the same service offered in different cities is now considered an outdated tactic. It sounds like you're about to add a good amount of content to your site, so it would be good to better understand exactly how you're planning to go about this before moving forward. Happy to share my opinion if you can share a little more detail.

  • http://www.eteach.com/justindaviesnovemeber This template is more visually appealing. You will need to make sure there is content on the page to avoid looking like a catalog. I would make sure that the links aren't hidden in a jQuery, but are fully functional as in site links.

  • You definitely need to mark them as fixed in order to remove them. If anything wasn't fixed properly then Google will show them as a 404 again.

  • Hi Mari-Rose, Okay, that's good you've verified and important to know that you only did so this month. So, you are working with a brand new listing that will have to climb the rankings. How high you climb will be based on a combination of factors, including: The quality and authority of your website The consistency and number of your citations The number of your Google-based reviews The strength/weakness of your competitors The distance between your business and the physical location of the searcher who is performing the search Social metrics and more ! If Local SEO is pretty new to you, I have some suggestions for jump starting your education: Get a basic understanding of the components of Local SEO from The Moz Local learning center http://moz.com/learn/local (already mentioned on this thread by RangeMarketing). Get an advanced understanding of how specific factors are believe to influence local search rankings from the Local Search Ranking Factors 2014 survey results: http://moz.com/local-search-ranking-factors Troubleshoot potential ranking problems with http://moz.com/blog/troubleshooting-local-ranking-failures I cannot overstate the importance of your website in all this. Investing in running the fastest, most user-friendly site with the best content in your industry/geography should be seen as your #1 priority, and then this must be backed up with your off-site efforts such as citation building, review acquisition and social participation. There is a lot to learn, but there is a ton of free educational information out there. Or, in some cases, local business owners hire Local SEOs to either consult with them to create a strategy or to implement said strategy. You have lots of options, and that's good news:) Good luck!

  • It sounds like you need a pattern redirect implemented, ideally in one 301. If that's not possible, I would definitely add another to get all the URLs redirected to their new location (avoiding any redirect loop) - better to lose 10-20% of link equity than all! Plus you said the old pages rank well - changing domains already almost guarantees a drop in rankings, even with 301s implemented. You absolutely need the 301redirects! As a last resort, have them 301 to the new location of each page's category. Make sure you test whatever solution you go with on a few pages before pushing across entire categories. Hope this helps!

  • Nice to see a fellow Wisconsin person here! I live in Bristol Robert has some good points. Do you have any customer reviews that you can add to service pages? If you can add the reviews to the page with the date, city and state it should help. On your contact us page, you can add a map with pins to the cities that you serve, with a link in them back to the service page for that county. That will help also. The most important thing is having really great, descriptive content. I would utilize a blog to better geo target. The blog is so helpful because you target long tail key terms, make the entire content location specific and have really engaging, shareable information.

  • Hello Alan, while we did have an update on the data on December 4th, it is taking a bit longer than expected to load the data into all of our campaigns. We should be all caught up in the next day or two. If you do not see the new data by then, please email us at help@moz.com so that we can do everything we can to make sure you get this data soon.

  • Google states on their support page: _If we’ve detected that a particular result has issues with its title, we may try to generate an improved title from anchors, on-page text, or other sources. However, sometimes even pages with well-formulated, concise, descriptive titles will end up with different titles in our search results to better indicate their relevance to the query. _ There’s a simple reason for this: the title tag as specified by a webmaster is limited to being static, fixed regardless of the query. Once we know the user’s query, we can often find alternative text from a page that better explains why that result is relevant. Using this alternative text as a title helps the user, and it also can help your site. Users are scanning for their query terms or other signs of relevance in the results, and a title that is tailored for the query can increase the chances that they will click through. What to do? Here's the answer: make your title mean something as a sentence or a phrase. List of keywords is not descriptive of what is on the page. Therefore Google will not use that. There are exceptions for e-commerce or product sites but that is the rule. If you want to highlight a certain keyword — simply place that at the start of the said phrase in the title. try to think as an user searching for your page when composing the above mentioned phrase. What do they desire? For more, please see my previous answer at http://moz.com/community/q/title-tag-issue-2

  • Yes I agree with the above comments. Here is what may be throwing you. Pre-Pigeon it did not matter as much. I would check rankings all day from whatever city I happened to have set in my browser and it didn't matter. But since Pigeon it does. You really need to set location to the query city to even try to get accurate results. But even with that you'll often see different results than clients do, due to personalization. If you are checking their ranking a lot or clicking their links or checking the page, then they could rank higher for you. Sometimes it even varies by browser and as others have said can be different if logged in or not. FYI if you ever need to check pure maps ranking realize that Classic maps is still showing the OLD algo and ranking order. But new maps is showing the Pigeon ranking order so if I client says I dropped down to H on maps, need so see which version of maps. It all just keeps getting more complicate, doesn't it?
