Hey guys wondering which is more important getting links from authority sites or relevant sites?
-
basically a site that has really high authority but not that relevant or medium authority pages but relevant. an example an authority site with a mozrank of 80 or a relevant site of 20.
-
There is a lot of ground to cover as relevancy is not a yes or no metric. The New York Times is probably not directly relevant to your site but they have some relevancy to every site as they cover all subjects to some degree. With that understood I would choose the high authority site generally speaking.
Why would a site that has no relevancy link to you?
-
Sites have Authority because they are relevant.
Example:
Topic: Bee virusessite#1: New York Times - highly authoritative site about all sorts of news posts a story about Bee viruses and links to your Bee virus website
site#2 Martha's Bee Virus fan site - has 2 articles about her part time hobby of Bee viruses, but is new to the community and hasn't really built her links. A link from her will certainly be relevant, but is she an authority yet? Nope.

The way I interpreted the question was, what if SEOmoz offered a link to Martha's Bee Virus fan site? SEOmoz has no relevancy but does offer great DA and possibly PA on a link.

That was what I meant by the question. By the way thanks for both sides of the spectrum guys very informative.
