      Hi!

      We have a multilingual page and I have set in Google Webmaster Tools the language preference for the root domain to be none, Spanish for the .com/es, English for the .com/en, and German for the .com/de.

      The title and description show in the right language in Google Germany and google UK, but in google.es (Spain) the title and description appear in English instead of Spanish.

      Does anybody know why could this be happening and how to fix it?

        Are you sure about Google Germany?  I just grabbed this screenshot.

        Your root domain is showing on the listings for Germany and Spain yet you have this tag in the head:

        | http-equiv="Content-Language" content="en"/> |

        You will need to get your /es and /de root pages listed on those engines for the language descriptions you are expecting.

          Hi,

          Thanks for your response!

          Inmonova.com/de has

          <meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="de"/>

          Inmonova.com/es has

          <meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="de"/>

          And those two pages are listed on those engines. FOr instance you can have a look ate the screenshot.

          But the .com with no language code shows better in the serps.

          How can we get the description to show in the apropiate language depending where the visitor is searching?

            You are correct, those sites do show but only when you are searching for those domains.  I'm not seeing a sitemap.xml file, but that would be strongly recommended.  Google does support sitemap indexes, which would be perfect for you in this situation!  You'll need to submit a separate sitemap for each language, and there you can identify the root/home page for each one.

            http://www.threebit.com/blog/seo/sitemaps-and-multilingual-websites.html

            You need to communicate to Google where your /es and /de are residing.  Having sitemaps in place for each of those roots would be best.  Further, if you are defaulting to English, you should probably have your root domain point to the English site (/en) since the root and the /en are essentially the same page.

            And yes, the root domain does have a language code in the head.  🙂

            • I am using All-in-One-seo. I change the title and meta description on the home page, but it is not showing up on the search. It is on the source code. When I change other pages, the both show up in the search, just not the home page. Any idea why?.
