I am planning on a new self help site in German language. I almost died from a skin disease and had to learn how to heal myself. I now I teach that to anybody interested.

I am tech savvy but internet marketing is new to me and I need some practical help in how to research my market niche and the best keywords.

      Thank you for your help,

      Guido

Here's what i recommend to get you started

        1. think of what keywords do you think people would type when wanting to learn more about that skin disease
        2. go to google adwords keywords tool and wordtracker and other keyword research tool to get a list ot popular related keywords
        3. on your site, add google analytics or any similar website statistics tool to log all keyword searches from other sites that provided the most relevant traffic
        4. based on those keywords from 1,2,3, get more keywords from competitors that ranks on the same keywords you are targeting.

        Good luck!

            Thank you,

I have a few questions about your reply if you don't mind:

I have a Google account, which other keyword tools are free?

#3 I don't understand. First I don't have a site yet but how can I log keyword searches from other site?

Would I look for competitors from organic results or paid advertising?

for #3, this is after you have a site. when people starts coming in, you will have new sets of keywords to work on. these keywords helped you get traffic, its best to rank on those new keywords to increase your number of visits.

use those relevant keywords that have the highest traffic, as your main target keyword. you also should need to target those less popular keywords to have more traffic.
