      Hi

I was reviewing a clients link profile and found a lot of the links they have pointed at their domain have the anchor text "Buy Viagra" or "buy viagra online" and similar. Now the website has absolutely nothing to do with this kind of business so no doubt these links are spammy. To my knowledge the website has not been penalised by Google so far.

Is it best to disavow or just leave alone?

      Kind Regards

        Hi,

        from Google:

We recommend that you disavow backlinks only if you believe you have a considerable number of spammy, artificial, or low-quality links pointing to your site, and if you are confident that the links are causing issues for you. In most cases, Google can assess which links to trust without additional guidance, so most normal or typical sites will not need to use this tool.

I think leave alone is the better option.

        Kind Regards

I tend to agree with digihouse, however this was a recent question posted here at Moz where a Moz associate suggested proactively disavowing the links.

You can check the responses there for some additional guidance.

It doesn't look like there is a general conscience on what to do. So perhaps a compromise makes the most sense. You could document the domain link and page and if it ever starts becoming an issue you are already one step ahead of it.

Hope it helps and good luck,

          Don

In my opinion this is a very obvious case of negative SEO against your client domain

More information about  Negative SEO here: http://moz.com/blog/preparing-for-negative-seo

I would really NOT wait to see if this links affects the rankings and do disavow as soon as possible. Why? Because it´s possible that the domain is still not penalized because "Penguin" has not checked your client domain yet, but once the domain get caught, domain reputation will be ruined.

            Good luck 🙂
