As long as you write natural and unique content about your subject then you should cover the relevant keywords you need without trying too hard and there shouldn't really be any negative keywords to avoid.

The one thing you should avoid is building unnatural links to those keywords

Negative and harmful keywords would be ones that don't have any use being on your website.

          1. Keywords that dont state clearly what service you provide, or what products you sell.
          2. If local, keyword phrases that don't state your area of service or location
          3. Keywords that don't drive conversions
          4. Keywords used to bait users without backing them up on your landing pages.

I would consider all of those to be negative keywords.

If you are strickly reffering to Adwords negative keywords, then I would read this to determine how you can save the most money from your campaign.

"Let's say you're an optometrist who sells glasses. You'd want to prevent your ad from showing to someone searching for or visiting webpages that contain terms like "wine glasses" and "drinking glasses," since that person isn't likely to buy a pair of your eyeglasses."
