      Hi all,

We've just migrated from http to https and I'd like to think we've done it successfully but there are a few things that are playing on my mind. I noticed earlier on that the site was not forcing users to https, even though we had set this up so I changed a few things:

      1. I've created a new https site on GWT and uploaded new https sitemaps. The old http site still exists with its old http sitemap. Is this correct?

      2. We've updated the robots.txt to point to https sitemaps - right call?

You can check out our new and old sitemaps below/robots.txt below:

      https://www.ihasco.co.uk/site-map/google (old http)

      https://www.ihasco.co.uk/site-map/google_https (new https)

      New robots.txt - https://www.ihasco.co.uk/robots.txt

The big problem is your redirection. At the moment, you DO NOT redirect people on the https website. Read more about the changes you have to make here -> https://moz.com/learn/seo/redirection. Basically, if you run on Apache, you need to modify your htaccess file and everyone who lands on the non-ssl version should be redirected to the https one. A quick Google search will give you examples of rules to include in your file. For example: https://uk.godaddy.com/help/redirect-http-to-https-automatically-8828.

In terms of the questions you asked:

        1. you should modify the settings of the website and set the https as the preferred version. You shouldn't have two different sitemaps. The non-ssl one should not even work (it should be redirected as mentioned above)

        2. Of course your robots.txt version should include the https links. Again, the one without them should be already redirected.

        Hope this helps.

        • We are redirecting http and non www versions of our website. Should all versions http (non www version and www version) and https (non www version) should just have 1 redirect to the https www version?
