      Hi,

I'd like to measure a conversion (appointment booking) that happens on an external website, i.e. NOT on our domain. Its about an appointment booking (calendar) that is done through one of these portals for SME's. For booking the appointment the customer will leave our domain.

There is the possibility to add some custom HTML (e.g. javascript) code on the checkout page (external page; not on our domain) of the appointment booking system.

We are using GTM (Google Tag Manager) and Google Analytics for Conversion Tracking. Our site is Wordpress.

Obviously the appointment booking will be tracked in the backend of the appointment booking site, but thats not the question nor the issue. We'd like to have it set up as a GA Conversion.

      Updates:

      1. They don't provide any code or example on how to do that. Its a newcomer platform, they don't know how to do that either...
      2. We are already measuring the click on the button as a conversion but would like to count it when the user has really terminated the process, i.e. finished the booking process successfully.

Does somebody have experience doing that?

      Thanks in advance.

      Cheers,

      Cesare

In that case you depend on the policies of that website.
In my experience I worked with some hotel booking services, and they give some kind of integration with Google Analytics.
So my advice is you should ask to your booking provider about the GA integration

          Hi Roman,

I already did that: they don't provide any code or example on how to do that. Its a newcomer platform, they don't know how to do that either...

So in that case you have other options but is a little bit complex, require some knowledge of javascript and tag manager.

            • If I were in your case I will setup a goal on GA
            • Then I creo a tag for the submision button (so when some one press submit it will trigger an event)
            • Redirect to a thank you page (using JS)

This is just a simple diagram not a complete solution, I'm pretty sure that can work because I did in the past, but as I mention require some knowledge, if you are a developer will not represent a big deal for you.

                Found a solution:

With the Measurement Protocol of GA I will be able to send a http post request to the right GA property, i.e. just generate a custom pageview in our GA that I then can track as a conversion. https://developers.google.com/.../collection/protocol/v1/

This is actually the javascript that I am adding to the EXTERNAL confirmation page of the booking platform (this is what they allow me to do):

Interesting I will check the details, I'm pretty sure that your solution will be useful in the future.
