Supplementing Moz's Keyword Explorer When Volume Has "No Data?"
-
Many of the keywords for which I'm trying to find volume information in Moz's Keyword Explorer have "no data." This makes it difficult to determine the value of the keyword compared to other options. What tools / techniques do you use as a stand-in for this data?

Hey Kevin,
The quick and easy answer to this is to use Google's Keyword Planner tool. Please note that the search volumes are now grouped (i.e. blue shoes for sale, buy blue shoe, buy blue shoes will all have a combined volume figure) so it's not 100% accurate but it's a good starting place.

Thanks for your response, Sean. I do use Google Keyword Planner for a sanity check, but because of its drawbacks (imprecision, grouped variants, etc.), I'm curious about other options that offer accurate and detailed volume data.

Rand covered this in a WBF from a few years ago:
The only way to get true volume data is to run an adwords campaign and see for yourself.
