When calculating the number of links on a page, are navigation links included in the total? I have all of my navigation links within the

<nav>element. I would think that there are a lot of sites out there that easily exceed the 100 link recommendation if you add up nav and footer links.   </nav>

When it refers to links, it's ALL links on the page, even navigational links. If you have too many links, then you might consider updating the navigation and splitting up those links into categories and subcategories. You may need to add additional category and subcategory pages on your site as a result.

Is there a tool that counts how many links there are on a page. We actually implemented a mega menu which we felt provided a better user experience.

Hi there! Tawny from Moz's Help Team here. Yep - Eric McGehearty is correct! When we're counting all the links on a page, all links, including

<nav>links, will be included. Anything that is <a href="" will="" be="" counted. <="" span="">​
