A little help on Optimisation for a wordpress food blog!

One thing I would recommend off the bat is enabling rich snippets for recipes and maybe a rating system too. https://developers.google.com/structured-data/rich-snippets/recipes

The page looks great, good Title tag & H1. Domain Authority is lacking. https://moz.com/learn/seo/domain-authority
I would in connection with your other work, start looking to build quality, relevant backlinks to the page. https://moz.com/ugc/category/link-building starting pushing yourself towards page 1.
Hope this assists.

Thanks for the advice!
I definetly think the area I am struggling in is the back linking! I will read the post - but one other question sorry
Say I was optimising for "gluten free" on one page - should I be getting individual back links - relevant back links - to that direct page - or should I be looking at the whole genre in terms of healthy food recipes?
Ive always wondered just how detailed the back linking goes

rich snippets! good point hank you - I will have a look now !

What you try and do, is get the backlink to target the keyword for your page. So if the page is "gluten free" then try and get the clickable link as "gluten free"... get some anchor text around it... and you are off to a great start.
To get links the first thing you should consider is to google "gluten free". Then of the top 75 url's that appear in the SERP try and see if you can get a backlink to any of those sites. Clearly some will be competitors - so no chance - but many will not be. Highly relevant because they are already appearing...

In addition to John's link to the Moz blog, I also can't recommend the Beginner's Guide to Link Building enough.
