I bought hosting for unlimited domains on Godaddy. It's not a dedicated server. It was just $85 a year. I have unlimited latency but a limited amount of "space."

I don't know a lot about hosting servers etc... My question is relatively simple.

When I go in GoDaddy to my hosting. There is a site that shows up as hosted, and all of the other sites show up under that site in it's directory. If you type the name of the site I bought the hosted package on, then type a forward slash and the name of one of the other sites on the hosting package, you will actually go to the other website.

What is this relationship? Is it normal? Does that make all of my websites subdomains of the main site (that I bought the hosting package on)? I don't fully comprehend how this effects everything...

Go Daddy allows you to host mutiple sites in the same account, Google will treat them as separate domains unless you have a link that connects both the domains.

Here's a link to a very good post explaining this in details:

          Excellent answer!

How does this form of hosting differ from buying  a dedicated server? I am thinking about buying a server and reselling web space. I need to know more though.

I could just put clients web pages as subfolders to my domain. Does this make them "subdomains?" Are they actually part of my domain? How is it that you can go directly to that domain via it's name? Did they change some "c record" or something. BTW, I don't know what a c record is, I just keep seeing it as I am trying to learn LOL

it's essentially the same however if you go through go daddy's reseller service they have a specialized dashboard to assist you. More info below:

            http://www.godaddy.com/hosting/reseller-hosting.aspx

they also have a nice comparative chart however i would suggest double checking the pricing with hostgator and blue host as they keep updating it:
