Hi there
What I would recommend doing is migrating the old blog over to the new blog so that all of your blog content lives under one consistent URL structure. I would perform both a content audit and backlink audit as well.
Reason being - from a content standpoint, you may have blog posts that can be consolidated, removed, or updated for the new blog. You'll want to run a comb through it to see what opportunities you have there or what hindrances you need to alleviate.
From a backlink standpoint, you may have backlinks pointing to old blog posts that you will want removed if they are irrelevant or spammy, and you may have really good links that you want to update to point to the new blog.
A lot of this will depend on the relevancy and traffic of old blog posts, so make sure you research before you make any moves. If you see equity in the old blog posts, make sure you move those to the new blog so that you can easily maintain and track that content's performance.
However, the most important reason for one blog, is consistency for users and your brand. If you have two blogs providing two separate experiences, you run the risk of lower engagement because it's confusing and not easy on the user.
Hope this all helps! Good luck!

Thank you Patrick, food for thought indeed. I am going to give some thought to migrating for sure. We have 1 keyword that we get more traffic from on our older blog that our main website each month, so I'm a bit cautious. I appreciate your input for sure though. Graham

One more question Patrick, you mentioned this "From a back-link standpoint, you may have back-links pointing to old blog posts that you will want removed if they are irrelevant or spammy, and you may have really good links that you want to update to point to the new blog"
Question - Can I migrate the blog, and then direct any links that went to our old blog to the new one we have? I would have assumed that could only be done by the source that pointed to our older blog originally?
Thanks!

Hey Graham
Can I migrate the blog, and then direct any links that went to our old blog to the new one we have? I would have assumed that could only be done by the source that pointed to our older blog originally? Yes you can do this - that's what I mean by "update" - you'd have to reach out to the webmaster of the source of the backlinks and ask them to update these to the new URLs. If they can't or don't respond, no big deal, just make sure your old URLs are redirecting properly.
Also - make sure, if you change URL structures of the old blog to the new blog, that your internal links also reflect the change so you don't have internal errors or redirects.
Hope this helps!

Hi there
If you properly migrate your old blog to your new blog, the rankings & traffic more than likely will follow, especially if crawlers can easily navigate and see your structure, rather than tying together two blogs an a site.
Again, this is a discussion you need to have with your team, but I would see no issue in your rankings if you handle your migration and backlink updates correctly. There may be a slight dip at the beginning, but that's a standard that often will balance itself out.
Hope this all helps!
