Google Analytics Not Properly Showing Twitter Stats
-
I noticed our Twitter stats in Google Analytics aren't properly showing. For some reason, approx 80% of referral visits and conversions from Twitter to our website aren't being accounted for (I know this because I can see the discrepancy in twitter analytics versus google analytics). I haven't had a problem with Facebook analytic data and other social media analytic data. Any ideas as to why my Twitter stats are completely off in GA?

Hi Lauren,
Here are a few of the more common reasons why this would happen:
- Some visits being credited to medium=social, and others to medium=referral
- Landing pages missing working GA code
- Improperly tagged Twitter links
- Dirty data somewhere
By 'dirty data', I mean that visits and/or conversions are either being tracked multiple times per session, or improperly tracked in some way.
It's difficult to diagnose this type of thing without having a look at the analytics and the site itself, but those 4 things would be the most common. Without being able to look, I would guess that Twitter visits are being credited to a different channel (social) than where you're looking (referral).

I'll just add that make sure you don't overlook t.co referrals. This is Twitter's link shortener that can appear in your referral reports instead of social traffic.
