How can I improve my search results for local pages?
-
My test for this specific example is http://www.mylocalgaragerepair.com
This client is trying to reach out for the local terms such as garage door repair for Temecula and other cities in riverside county. I build the following page.
http://www.mylocalgaragerepair.com/temecula-garage-door-repair-temecula-garage-door-service/
What am I doing wrong? Is there some plugin's or other type things that would help my rank locally? If you solve this you've solved one of the main problems I'm having with my business. Any help is greatly appreciated.

What you don't want to do is have a bunch of pages that are nearly identical, save for a different city name, and have pages that look like they are keyword stuffed for particular phrases. The map that shows the client's location as in the middle of the lake probably isn't going to help with the trust of potential clients.
What is a good idea is to talk to your client and ask them what are the top questions they get over the phone, and the top questions they get in person. THAT is the content that your potential audience wants to read, and are likely typing into the search engines.

Do keep in mind that the post in the link is over two years old, and some of the tools and guidelines have since changed (like the keyword tool and title tag limits)

Yes it is true that the link is outdated, but not the key idea that it supports. You need to target the right keywords to bring the right people to your site. And as we know a SEO strategy is not just the keywords, it is also the right content and the way you display it. Meaning that you should be able to support the keywords that you chose to target.
