How to know exactly which page links to a 404 page on my website?
-
Hi Moz users,
Sometimes I get 404 crawl errors using Moz Pro and when my website has a few dozen pages it is hard for me to find the original page that links to a 404 page. Is there a way to find this automatically using Moz or do I have to look for it manually?
I just need to find the original link and delete it to fix my 404 issue. Please let me know thank you for you help.

I think Moz already tells from where is the link that points to that 404 page.
Another way is to use GWT, they list the 4XX errors and if the links comes from our site, click on the error and see the "Linked From" and "In Sitemap" to see if your site is linking to that particular 404.
And as the last resource, you can use some of the online tools available for free to find broker links, example: http://www.brokenlinkcheck.com
Hope that helps!

Hi Marc,
This might also be of use - 'Check my links' extension for Chrome (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/check-my-links/ojkcdipcgfaekbeaelaapakgnjflfglf).
Once you have located the page you can use this tool to pin-point where on the page the broken link is.

If you download the CSV, you'll get the referring URL in the spreadsheet.

Very nice the extensión on google chrome Davinia althoght just give the links paga by page with is arder on bif websites with tousands of pages.
Webmaster tools tells you where are the bad links coming from although sometimes that link as already been fixed before by you.
If you are using wordpress, than i think broken ink checker will be the best way to detect and correct the broken links in the same plugin
