Does internal link have any significant impact in determining page authority?
-
I was running a web page comparison between my web page and another similar one. It shows my web page has slightly higher page authority (51 vs 48), higher external links (109 vs 19), but much much lower internal links (121 vs 1,453). And when I run a google search that corresponds to these webpages, the other site always comes out on the first page and my webpage is no where to be found.
So my hypothesis is Internal link plays a major role in determining webpage authority instead of external link (contrary to what I've read).
So is the hypothesis true? Or do you have any other insight?

Nobody knows if this is true of false.
There are about 200 other factors in the algo and currently tons of websites are rankings much lower than normal because of Penguin, Panda and Unnatural link problems.

As usual, EGOL nails it for you. IMO in SEO, the biggest mistake that we make is to attach ourselves to any one or two pieces of the algorithm as opposed to looking at it as a whole. The reasons one site outranks another is the fools game of SEO, especially when we have a vested interest in one of the sites. (I don't know about you, but typically, I am a better, cleaner, and more handsome SEO pro than anyone I compare one of my sites/client sites to.) Yes, I am more handsome!
Good Luck to you,
Robert

I think that this is one of the top three questions asked on Moz Q&A.
.... and yes, you are more handsome.

I just yelled your question out my back door and Cutts didn't answer me.... Not sure why but can't seem to get him to answer me...

Again.... Egol nails it!
don't get stuck on a rabbit trail... Look at the entire balance of the websites promotion......

Many thanks for all of your insights, guys! Really appreciate it. =D

If Google would just give us the API of their algorithm, we could have our tools use those factors in the comparison and we'd all have so much more information!
