I am reading advanced google adwords, great book, recommended by someone here in my last question.  I have already learnt a few things after chapter 2.

I have a question about exact match vs phrase match.

My site is about printers, and I want to create ads for specific products

I created a specific adgroup for exact match and added many exact keywords like these:

      [hp 4250 printer]

I created another specific adgroup for phrase matches: and I added something like this:

      "hp 4250 printer"

      Adwords say:

This keyword is triggering other ads with a similar keyword: [4250 printer]

Why? I thought that phrase match only says the order of the keywords in the phrase, but they can have words before or after the double quotes, right?

Are you using phrase (close variant)?

this stands in the huge cauldron of what google wants and what we think it would be better. Google will always put an alert to warn you but you can simply ignore it.

You can have exact + phrase + broad matches in the same adgroup, the narrowest keyword will compete with your competitors, whenever it's not exact you'll have your phrase match covering you. In that sense you can also adjust your biddings properly.

I really recommend you to use all the options google gives, exact + phrase + broad and add the main negatives you see in the adwords keywords tool.

Sorry I've completely misunderstood the question, Kevin is completely right 🙂
