Is anyone familiar with this software? Is it any good?  Most of all, is it expensive? I work for a small business and software like vocus marketing are out of our price range.

      Thanks,

      C

I used http://uk.prweb.com/ last Friday and got a link from Yahoo news. It was ok I guess, was a bit disappointed though, barely any traffic.

It was around a big piece of news as well, not just a "we've re-designed our website" or something.

I wouldn't do it again. Your experience could be different though.

It can be, but it depends on what your target is. I actually recommend hiring someone, a PR professional with solid journalistic contacts. Software to send out press releases won't get you very far.

We have a newer SEO client, and I happened to notice that their Followed Links within the link history in SEO Moz spiked last month by a few hundred. A little investigation showed me that this was caused by their PR firm (not us) using PR Newswire to distribute a simple release about them being retained for an upcoming tradeshow. This release was syndicated across many decent local TV news sites and some national properties.

            Example below: http://www.bizjournals.com/prnewswire/press_releases/2013/04/01/CL85894

This seems like an additional link building tactic to add to the arsenal, because it gets additional domains pointing back to the client.

Does anyone see a problem with this on an occasional basis when the client has something decent to announce.

The issue is that these are low level links created by duplicate content. There is nothing wrong with it happening, but the links don't count for much. Matt Cutts said just as much a few days ago, syndicated press releases don't mean much and their value is very small. I wouldn't waste time or money on it.
