Are others having problems with upload speed at moz?
-
I have noticed for a while now when posting a question, answering, etc. that it takes "forever" for the answer, question, reply, etc. to finally resolve. At first, I was wondering if it was on my end, but at home I have a download speed of about 22 Mbps and upload of about 3 Mbps. At our office we are all fiber and have 90Mbps down and 30Mbps up. (Both sets verified by Speedtest.net)
I use a MacPro 17 with OSx MountainLion and 8 GB of Ram on second gen Intel I7 processor with SSD.Any issues with any of the above/moz anyone knows of?
Thanks,

Yes, very slow
-
yes, everyone is, this is why you see multiple posts sometimes - people hitting submit a few times because it takes so long.
page speed is one part of the SEO rankings equation folks

Agreed. Been extremely slow the past week or two. I've noticed every now and then it will load extremely slow.
I'm on T1 and it loads slow. At home optimum online and at office T1 and FIOS. So its not my connection.

I was just going to ask this exact question. Q&A has always been significantly slower than the rest of the site, but today it is C R A W L I N G
EDIT: Time between my hitting the submit button on this response and it actually posting: two minutes. Ha, now it'll be another two minutes before this part shows up.

Came here today to finally ask this questions as well, Robert, when I noticed your question.
It's gotten bad enough that I often can't be bothered with short answers and comments because they take so long. Even trying to provide a "thumbs up" takes a ridiculously long time.
I've had to get into the habit of copying all my question responses before posting since they time out, fail, and get lost so often. Just yesterday wrote a long, effective answer to a question as I was on the way out the door. Came back to computer to find it had timed out and I hadn't remembered to copy it. Couldn't be bothered typing so the question went unanswered.
I've been seeing a lot of promises about improvements here for Q&A for quite some time now, but I think it's time for SEOMoz to step up and provide actual timelines for when we, as paying customers, can expect to see some of these improvements.
- fix the submission times for answers and thumbs up
- provide Q&A data in the Top SEOMoz Community Members pages as promised right on the page for at least 6-8 months
- provide user notification of thumbs & good answers to their answers (promised by an SEOMoz rep in comments on a questions recently)
- implement an asker reminder system to remind question askers to go back and finish participating in their questions/close the question/rate good answers (also promised by an SEOMoz rep in comments on a questions recently)

[edited to add - this reply only took a zippy 26 seconds to post. On a 50Mbit down/5MB up connection]

Interestingly, I find edits to existing comments post almost instantaneously, Marisa. I suspect a configuration issue that wouldn't be very hard to track down.
Though this is my second attempt to post this, as the first attempt resulted in a "failure to post" error saying the post was blank. Uhhh... so what are these characters I typed in the reply box, then?? Good thing I copy all my submissions before hitting post

Paul
[Edited to add - 29 secs to post this time]

Hi everyone,
I've seen the slowness as well, and it's frustrating for me too. We looked at the backend, and right now it's just general slowness, not one particular cause. The good news is that we have a large software upgrade coming in less than two weeks which should considerably speed up the system and fix some of the "features" that we've had for far too long. In the coming months, newer features for Q&A will be released.
I have seen the development server, and can't wait for this to be in place. We'll make a post when the new system is up, too.
Thanks for your patience, I do know that this has gotten worse lately, but it's almost over.

You're right, Updating a post didn't take nearly as long. Also, it seems to be better overall today.

Everyone should be noticing the performance improvements by now. Early Wednesday morning we rolled out an update that has helped things considerably. If you find any bugs or odd happenings, please either send an email to help@seomoz.org or chime in on the thread about the update at http://www.seomoz.org/q/q-a-performance-improvements. Thanks so much for your patience!
