Best way to pull in back-links? Any API's?

Hey folks.

I am trying to find out the best way to pull in a list of pages that link to a particular site / page and struggling a little.

The SEOmoz API does have this feature, but gets very pricy for access to this. For some reason, the Google API seems to make a real mess of this and the guy doing the work can't seem to get it to work properly. No matter how he tried, he can't get it to show more than 8 backlinks to my main site.

Can anyone shed a little light on this at all please?

What platform are you trying to pull them in to?

Hi Steve, It's for a tool on my site: http://www.inetseo.co.uk/seo-services/seo-audit/free-seo-audit It's all written in PHP. Just finding the back links is causing issues

I'm not asking how to link build I'm looking for ways to report back the number of backlinks that point at a particular page / domain.

Yeah, that definitely dev work and unfortunately I don't do enough to tell you how to exactly do it.  However, I asked one of our developers and he said that there is no easy way to do it... using Google's API is best but still a pain.

You need to get soap installed on your PHP (if you haven't already).

However, I have to say... the best way to do it is not show a client a tool and let them get an instant quote, but to have them request a free report and then give you a number to follow up.

From there, you would use your favorite tool and then call them up with the report... this gives you dialog with the client and a door to a sale - something much more valuable than a developing a free tool.

Well, my intention was never to make something that somehow results in a quote. Not even sure how i would do that! The tool was something I made for myself but then decided to make it available for anyone who wants to use it but thank you for the sales advice
