Tips for Moving to Magento

I am moving my company's site over to Magento in two months and am hard at work coming up with SEO guides, concept maps showing what links to where, etc.

I just wanted to stop in and ask if anyone here has advice or tips for going over to Magento. Anything you learned from your move to Magento? Anything you had to do later that you wish you would have done when you first made the switch? Anything that is super easy to do in Magento that you thought would be hard?

For any migration you need to develop a plan for SEO. There are a lot of tips out there i.e. https://seogadget.co.uk/surviving-seo-site-migration/,  however you must make sure you correctly map out all URLs and redirect them if needed,

The one major tip I can give you when working with Magento and all ecommerce sites, is that you make sure to fix all duplication and canonical issues. Increasing the quality of the site will reflect well in the sites user experience and visibility (in terms of how it is indexed) in search.

Other quick tips to increase your sites visibility using magento (depending on the size of your site):

• Segment your XML sitemaps. Also create an image sitemap to generate additional traffic to the site.
• Make sure you have your product rss feeds accessible for both search engines and users.
• Reduce the number of internal links per page as possible.
