      Thank you for your time and viewing this post!

      I just received my invitation to Pintrest that I have been dying to get, and I am not sure how to go about using it effectively. My ultimate goal would be to use it to advertise my employers products, but at the same time I'm not sure how to go about doing this. Does anyone have any experience they would care to share?

        Hi Justin,

        I'm new to this community and making my first post here, so take it from that perspective. 🙂

        I've been using Pinterest for a few months and watching the way brands are using it. The brands that are gaining followers and getting re-pinned are focused on creating great boards and not advertising products.  They also are staying true to brand values; lifestyle and POV.

        For example, Small Kitchen College is a guide to cooking, eating, drinking, and living on & off campus. The boards they create in Pinterest reflect that lifestyle with boards like all About Ramen, Dorm Room Decor, Back to School Supplies, All About Bacon and such.

        Log & Timber Homes is a brand that has boards like Post & Beam Work, Fireplaces, Cabins, and a lot of Animal boards.

        Whole Foods Market is doing a fab job with over 10,000 followers. They promote the healthy and organic lifestyle with boards like; How Does Your Garden Grow, Recycling/Reusing, and What's for Dinner.

        I suggest setting up a personal profile and watching before setting up a brand profile. Get a feel for the type of boards and images that will reflect the brand.

        For SEO, the name of the board is the title and the board description works as meta-description so think carefully about board names and descriptions. To see an example of the way search displays board titles Google "whole foods pinterest".

        The idea is to engage with people and build the brand through discovery. Find ways to make the brand visual, add really good photographs and graphics to your website and encourage sharing with a "Pin This" button. Be generous, fun and unique. You never know which pics will be the winners. I've had some simple things like an organic candle photo that has been repinned like crazy. Photo's pinned from your website keep your URL and currently it is a follow link.

        It will be fun to watch this unfold and to see how brands become more visual.
