How can the differences between Moz and Majestic's link totals be explained?

Newbie here so this might be a really daft question....

We've a few accounts and are trialling different software - across a few campaigns, we're seeing big differences in link numbers from different software (namely Moz and Majestic).

I'm assuming there is a really good reason for it - just can't find what it is!

Neither crawls the whole internet, same with bing Yahoo and Google each have a different index.

SEOMoz tries to crawl the pages that matter. I would suggest the links you find in most indexes are the better ones.

Quick question then - how come Moz and OSE are different?

Can you give an example where SEOmoz and OSE are different? I'm not quite sure I follow you, since Open Site Explorer is an SEOmoz product.
