Ranking Tracker not correct?
-
Over the last 6 weeks I've been linkbuilding for one of my customers. The search term is: bed and breakfast portugal. It is not easy but we are making progress. The goal is the number 1 page (top 10 results) in Google.nl I've been keeping score with Rank Tracker and also created a campaign. Last week we were still ranked 11 (for some time already) according to Rank Tracker but tuesday we made a jump to number 7. Whoehoe you would say but opening up Chrome and Firefox browser I am still seeing www.bedandbreakfast-casaceedina.com on the 2nd page?
Maybe somebody can give me an explanation? I've de-personalized my search and also Rank tracker show s the command they are using:
http://www.google.nl/search?q=bed+and+breakfast+portugal&pws=0
However also using that I'm not seeing my client back at position 7. How can the Rank tracker information be so wrong, I was hoping not off course

Your help is appreciated very much.

Hi,
Make sure you have personalization off then check the ranks using Google Ad Preview Tool - https://adwords.google.com/d/AdPreview/?__u=1000000000&__c=1000000000
This will provide a more real time result to show where your page is ranking,
Also be sure to test on different IP's and geo locations you are targeting.

4 point swing?
I just checked manually using proxies, depersonalization and language settings and I see you in 11th too, but the above article might give you some sort of insight.
Unless you're checking at the exact same time it's hard to tell.
I'm not particularly up to date on how Google's datacenters work these days either, but sometimes it can be different depending on which one you hit.

Same thing has happened to me a few times, the next update then put us back down to where we were seeing it. But a few weeks later (still working on the linking building) we actually did move up. So I think google does fluctuate its results, but It means your getting close.
Having said that I had the rank checker come up with some questionable reports for the odd keyword, but 99% it seems to be right.

Thanks eunaneunan for your comment. From my own experience I thought Ranktracker could not be wrong but in this case I am unable to find the cause.

Also thought it might be due to a synchronization issue between the Google datacenters, however we are two days further so .. anyway still in the dark. Amazing article btw. Thx for that.

I would defiantly agree that results can fluctuate between different times and computers.
One site I have been monitoring carefully recently has been bouncing around a lot between the 1-6 spots.
One minute its up, the next down - and different machines at the same time show different results.
One trick I have found is to put &pws=0&gl=xx on the end of the URL.
pws=0 turns off personalised search while gl=xx simply breaks geolocation.
I often find that when gl=uk shows results I don't know wheteher to belive, gl=xx shows the more stable result.
