I've got a client who verified their Google Places listing years ago, and noone knows who so I can't access it. The business is now moving and I need to update the address. What should I do? thanks

        Gary,

This is not as daunting as it may seem. Go into the listing and click on Edit this listing. (If you use an account for other Google needs like GA, GWT, GMail, you will need to log out of it or it will default to that which is a pain, not an issue.

Once the option to edit the listing is open, make the necessary changes and near the bottom you will see (send email when this edit is reviewed or if more information is needed). Click on that.

You will get an email about verifying the business owner and should be able to do it through that. It will require they send a postcard to the business for verification so make sure your owner will be where the postcard is going. Typically, it takes us here in the US about a week before the client gets the postcard.

A second way, especially if the move is done or soon, is to do a new listing with new address and phone. Then, click on verify the listing and wait on the card. This will result in two listings. Once the new one is up, go in and close the old by doing an edit and when they give you a list of questions about what is wrong with it (since you are not account holder), state it has moved and has a new listing - reference it. Also, ask for email when Google has handled.

Make sure you are clear with the client as to what will happen and the importance of not throwing out the card as it will have to be repeated. Trust me, if you are not clear with the client, they will throw it out as a direct marketing piece. I am attaching a photo but cannot guarantee the postcard is the same for CA.

If you need a more detailed explanation, here is Google Places link: [ http://www.google.com/support/places/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=154099&topic=1656881#](If you need a more detailed explanation, here is GooglePlaceslink: "Google Places verification")

        Hope this helps.
