Anyone know what makes a directory get served up?
Are you talking about local results, and having Yelp and Yellow Pages show up in search results for local searches, or are you talking about searching for things like book reviews and directories are in the results?

Problem Shooting with Google authorship
A major part of the problem is that you're trying to setup authorship for your company's google+ page and not for an individual. That's not how it works. You have to tie authorship to an individual and authorship is meant to be setup for aritcles and blogs, rather than sitewide. To tie a brand page to your site you should use rel=publisher.

Moz Local
Pixus - I'm with you on this! May I ask if you use a particular citation platform here is the UK? If so, do you use it for your own business to promote your services, or for your clients, and what impact has this had? I'm really interested to find out more.

One company - 2 websites
My firm uses several websites. When I first came in house there were a lot of sites, but I took them down because of the content quality at the time. I am slowly building them back up. I find that specific area websites can be very useful for pointing ads or specific campaigns, since many people want to know just about X concept I am very careful not to reproduce content and not to try to hide that the sites are owned by the same company. I hesitated to bring the sites back up until I got some confirmation from Matt Cutts that having more than one site is fine, as long as you follow good content and other SEO standards. http://www.brafton.com/news/cutts-on-similar-website-content-multiple-domains-duplicate-or-safe I link between the sites, but in an organic way. I.e. if I have an article on one site that naturally links to another site, I link it. I also don't have a huge number of sites and don't expect to do so.

Competitor outranking me on google with their yelp, facebook and youtube pages
Hi Spencer. That article is great and explains this issue perfectly. so Barnacle SEO, huh? Yeah, I do see that his domain authority is larger as is his likes/yelp reviews. I'm in my second year. The competitor i believe is in the 15th or so. At this point, I'm going to optimize my social media profiles and link them to my site. Ideally this will help balance that first page more. My primary effort will be to move to the first spot on the page. Thank a bunch!

Report Google Plus Pages for Catergory Stuffing?
I appreciate the response, I succeeded in reporting the page not sure if it will work or not. I normally don't worry about little things I see but this guy had 18 categories loaded with keywords and his business name is stuffed with 6 lines of keywords and he ranks very high. I had to point that one out!!! I reported some incorrect business information using the map maker tool also. I will let you know how it turns out! Thanks again.

Question about onsite NAP as it relates to Local Search
Good suggestions on this thread! What I would be sure that you are doing is that if you have a unique landing page for each office, you are consistently using the acronym for that specific business on that page. So, in other words, your landing page for the office in NM should consistently refer to the business as Keller & Keller LLC. This does matter. Presumably, you will have linked from the NM Google+ Local page directly to this landing page and if Google sees Keller & Keller LLC in both sources, it will confirm the identity of the business for them and lower your chances of merging and duplicates. Hope this helps!

Local Optimisation without Local Pages?
Hi Freshfireone, I would recommend that you identify the client's business model on this post and then look at the suggestions for how that business model can best proceed: http://moz.com/blog/local-landing-pages-guide If you have more questions after you take a gander at that, please ask away!

Moz Local for Canada
Hi Jen, Keri is quite correct that we don't currently have expansion plans for Moz Local, but I hope we'll be able to support Canada one day. In the meantime, definitely check out Whitespark.ca. They are a completely awesome Candian-based citation building company and offer great packages. Really good guys! Another alternative is BrightLocal, which is UK-based and internationally-supporting. Also high quality. Hope these alternatives help. Hope this helps!

Google Places Question
Hi Sarah, Provided that these are physical locations that are staffed during normal business hours and not shared by another business, then, yes, it's typically a best practice to link from each Google+ Local page to its respective landing page on the website. I realize this isn't your question, but as it came up in this thread, I thought I'd address it first. Do you see a benefit for your customers in doing this? If so, go ahead. If not, what would be your goal in doing this? It can't hurt, but may not give you a visible boost in any way. Recommend you study the great new Moz Local Learning Center. Tons of good info there: http://moz.com/learn/local Hope this helps!

Swiss SEO Companies
I would suggest a Search on Google for "SEO companies near Zurich" the ones who come top of the ranking I would look into. Sorry if this sounds a little obvious, but like Tattoos "Cheap SEO isn't good and Good SEO isn't cheap!"

Google Places Australia - Categorisation Issue
Hi NetReach, Matt-Antonio has raised 2 very important points, the first being that if you see competitors' listings with a category that no longer exists in the new Google Places for Business categories, this is likely because it's left over from the custom category days. The link he's included in his reply goes to Mike Blumenthal's category tool that should let you see which categories are currently available. I agree with you that 'electrician' isn't there. You'll have to find the next-best options.

Craigslist key word spamming/flagging?
I haven't used it for those purposes, but Craigslist would also want to know about that type of spam. If you're going to complain about a TOS violation, it's best that you not also violate their TOS. Give them as much information as possible -- search queries that show the ads from the same person, how you identify it as the same person/entity, and make sure the queries don't have any false positives.
