Google Maps Help
Oliver, I am not sure what your question is re client 1, it sounds as if, currently, their fourth location is not on page one and there may be a bit of work to do on it to get it there. As to Client two - DO NOT try to reclaim or create new profiles for them. You will create a problem you and the client do not want to deal with. There is a high likelihood you will create merged listings and cause problems. I am assuming when you say: all of them were claimed by another company 1 year ago. But now I cant re-claim them unless the other company releases them but that wont be easy. you are saying another SEO or Local firm. For us, when we work on client's Local, we do not claim the listing, we claim if for the client and give them the passwords we set up for them. For a company to try and hold that is, IMO, unethical. (Assuming they have no contractual reason for same.) Any discomfort from dealing with the other company is nothing compared to dealing with trying to create new listings, etc. (And you are going to need your clients to help pressure them, not you. At least the client is more likely to have success.) The client with your help can get Google to work with you if they do not have the passwords, but it will be very difficult and time consuming. You really need the passwords and to work to get them from the other firm. I hope this helps, Robert

Local seo yoast plug in
The plug-in is something I use on quite a few clients sites. I really like it because of its ease of use and the way it looks. However you can do the same thing with schema but for the money it is a great buy you can do everything that is needed to provide your business hours, address, phone number and it codes it perfectly allowing you to work on other things. I agree with Miriam, you must have a brick-and-mortar address and do face-to-face business in order to have a Google local listing. Nice work finding that information. In addition you may want to look at getlocal.org now owned by Moz has a lot of local knowledge. For citations check out Whitespark.ca you can get a discount from Moz.com/perks hope this helps, Thomas

Good Directories
If a directory has good page rank, there may be some value there, but that needs to be tested and proven. If there is a good directory of directories, this is it: http://info.vilesilencer.com/top

Site links mutually exclusive with Google+ Business?
Hi Eric, first of all authorship should not be shown for pages like the home page of your site. Remember, authorship should be used just for articles, posts, guides, white papers... editorial content that has a proper author. Pages like home page, product listing, product pages, institutional pages... not. If you want to show an image, maybe your logo, you could use the schema.org/organization, as explained by Google here. Then... if you do a search like "angelsmith.net", then you will see sitelinks (10). It does't show them when the search is "angelsmith". Why this difference? First of all remember that we cannot decide if a search snippet will show sitelinks or not (we can only tell Google what URL to not show as such), but in your specific case I think it is because of the supposed intention Google gives to that branded query. It's probable that users' intention is to see the local search information of Angelsmith. That's also reinforced by you presence in Google Plus as a physical business. p.s.: about sitelinks. Usually Google choose the sitelinks over its knowledge base, meaning with that URLs that usually are clicked on by the users in its SERPs. Apart that, schema like breadcrumbs, but also a clear site's navigation architecture helps Google in this facet of of SERPs rewriting. p.s.2: your case remind me to correct the use of authorship also on my site

Google vs. Google+ Local Rankings - How do they relate
I am using ranking reports from BrightLocal. Brightlocal gives you ranking reports that check your ranking by keywords like this: Google Google+Local Yahoo Yahoo Local Bing Bing Local So apparently, there are multiple ways to rank in Google 1. Go to Google.com and type something in. 2. Go to this url https://plus.google.com/local and type something in 3. Go to maps.google.com For regular Google search. my client isn't in the top 50 for keyword search "dentist Oxnard CA" For Google+Local, client is #7 for keyword search "dentist Oxnard CA" Do people even use Google+Local Search? My question was how is it possible to not be in the top 50 for Google search for "dentist Oxnard CA" but be #7 for Google+Local search?

Google Places and Backlinks
Hi Mike, Last July, I put this exact same question about linking to a Google+ Local page to Mike Blumenthal, aka Professor Maps. I think you'll really enjoy reading his thoughtful answer, which he turned into a blog post: http://blumenthals.com/blog/2013/07/02/should-you-do-linkbuilding-to-your-g-page-for-local/ Remember that it takes time to see the benefits of citation building, and that this is only one of the things that you need to be doing to promote a local business. Paramount is ensuring that you've obeyed all guidelines and rules (haven't made mistakes), and that the website is perfectly locally optimized. In addition to citation building, there is on-going content development, earning reviews, earning links and social outreach. If you're the new kid in a competitive vertical, you've got to work hard at a variety of disciplines in order to begin to move in on already-established businesses. Discovering their weaknesses can be one way to determine areas in which you can do a better job. Local SEO requires a ton of work and a big helping of patience!

Google+ Page Link Not Showing
Hi Paul, While there is no guarantee that a branded search (like the one you've described) will bring up a G+ link in the SERPs, some businesses to achieve them. It may be a trust thing. You might try following these steps in this Google tutorial if you haven't already done so: https://support.google.com/plus/answer/1713826?hl=en&ref_topic=3052532 You'll notice that if you add a geo term to your query, then you do get both the Google+ link and the review link in your results: https://www.google.com.au/#q=doors+direct+brisbane So, I wouldn't be concerned that Google isn't aware of your business and its connection to your Google+ Local page. It may simply be a case of building greater authority. Or, a case of time. I want to share a link to this short but really awesome little post at Local U about why some results show G+ links and some don't. Be sure to read both the post and the comment by Linda Buquet. I think you'll find it quite interesting: http://localu.org/blog/google-local-search-results-show-g-links-others/ Hope this helps! Postscript: I wanted to return to this thread with another thought, the insight of which I owe to Darren Shaw of Whitespark. I have seen questions like yours come up before regarding the absence of a G+ link for a branded result and I've never had any hunches about this. Here's an interesting new hunch: Something to consider is the fact that there is a difference between your company's name and the name of the other company you used in your example. "Doors Direct" could, just possibly, be hitting Google as a slightly ambiguous query. You'll notice that in your example search, Google is bringing up more than one business, possibly because Google doesn't feel sure about the user's intent. Once you add a geo term to the search, Google suddenly gets it that someone is searching for your company in Brisbane, and that's when you're getting the Google+ link in the results. By contrast, there is no ambiguity factor related to the brand Synchromedia Group. Could be that Google sees this query and has no doubt as to what the user wants. So, this may be playing a part in your lack of a Google+ link for your branded, non-geo search. Something to consider.

Google won't index my site?
Hi thanks for getting back. Yes got it sorted though you're right about even the smallest error causing major issues - left a [ character in the file which brought everything to its knees...one other small issue is that the Moz analytics tool is saying that I have duplicate content on 3 pages, but they're all the same page? See attached. any ideas how to solver this? x24dKw9.png

Are citations the way to go even if there is no Google Places listing
Hi Gavo, While what Marcus points out is true (you can prompt local results for web design companies by adding 'in' to your query), it's important to understand that Google does not view web design companies as being truly local, hence their lack of inclusion in the results for the most common service + city or city + service queries. To my understanding, Google's thinking on this is that most web design (and SEO) companies operate virtually (don't meet with clients face-to-face). So, you can add your web design company to Google's local index, and you can build citations for it, but it's likely that your overall organic rankings will hinge more on other forms of marketing in which you engage. Think content development, earning links, social outreach, etc.
