Category: Link Explorer

Cover all things links and the industry-leading link data discoverable in Link Explorer.

  • Hi Bertrand13, Unfortunately, from Page Authority alone, we cannot determine if a page has been penalized by G. The page could be new, thin content, doesn't have many links pointing to it, hosted on a new domain, ect. You're on the right track for auditing the PR services. When pages, such as the one you've identified, are found the next step is to do a manual review of the page. When visited, is the page: Very spammy Little to no content Bombarded with comment spam Includes a ton of external links Completely unrelated to your niche Stuffed with keywords If so, then I would say you want to disavow that link and ask why/how your PR firm acquired the link.

  • What you will want to do is search for the external linking sites to see if we have crawled them to find your pages. We do not have to crawl your site to find your backlinks, only the external linking sites. For your campaign settings the correct URL needs to contain www. The current campaign is added as the root domain and since it re-directs to the sub-domain, our tool is only looking to track the root domain version. The campaign will need to be re-created to track www.automationanywhere.com/testing/ and not automationanywhere.com/testing/

  • Hey Joe, Thanks for writing in! DA and PA are updated with our index every 3-6 weeks. Just discovered links are found through RSS feeds and Social accounts and are there to highlight links that may appear in our next index. You may see Page authority increase faster than Domain Authority with each update and there is a chance that it may remain the same depending on where your link juice is coming from. Feel free to follow up with any other questions!

  • Appears that moz is not supporting IE either...tho they are supposed to be "working" on it...but till they actually do get the analytics to work in IE - use Chrome.... Not fun to try to explain that to a client tho...

  • This usually takes place when one of the mentioned links are newer than the other. Have either of these been linked to recently?

  • I started to answer this one way, but then I looked again and you were looking for links from your website to external sites that are broken, yes? I do not know of a way to do this on Moz (though you can look at broken internal links), but you can do this with Screaming Frog. (A great resource to have for a lot of things...)

  • Hello Alan, while we did have an update on the data on December 4th, it is taking a bit longer than expected to load the data into all of our campaigns. We should be all caught up in the next day or two. If you do not see the new data by then, please email us at help@moz.com so that we can do everything we can to make sure you get this data soon.

  • Unfortunately, we currently do not have a batch tool for OSE. We do offer an API for Mozscape data, which you can then important all the data at once into a spreadsheet or another tool you've built.

  • Not really an expert in robots.txt - but you could always try to simulate Rogerbot using a tool like Screaming Frog (the tool is free if you crawl less than 500 pages). You can enter a custom user agent. Rogerbot seems to be rogerbot/1.0 (http://moz.com/help/pro/what-is-rogerbot-, rogerbot-crawler+shiny@moz.com) and try crawling the pages on your site. In default mode, the tool will only crawl pages that are allowed by the robots.txt. If the tool crawls your pages, then something is wrong with the robots.txt - if not, than you should contact Moz staff to check with them.

  • Hi, No, we do not have a place for you to upload a list of your disavowed links. The main reason is that we actively avoid crawling very spammy sites, where most of the links you're disavowing probably live. We try to identify quality links that you'd want to report on. We definitely have more reporting and other helpful SEO tools besides just looking at your backlinks. If you haven't, I suggest signing up for our welcome webinar (or watching a past recording) where we walk you through all our tools.

  • Hi There, So Leonie is correct that Open Site Explorer is the best way to check your backlink profile. As a bit of an addendum you can find an amazing rundown of OSE in our help hub at: http://moz.com/help/guides/research-tools/open-site-explorer. This should give you a feel for if OSE is right for you, and if you have any questions on it please feel free to let me know or write into help@moz.com. Hopefully this helps and have an amazing day!

  • Hello! The metrics you see for any domain is based on other domains that link to their site. We actually cannot crawl LinkedIn.com as they block us from crawling their page. Our tools check for any disallow directives for any URL entered and the URL error you are receiving is a result of their robots.txt configuration. Hope this helps!

  • Sorry! It may be that your IP address is not allowed to access our site. We had an issue with spam a while back that made us have to turn up security a bit. If you PM me your email address, I will send a PDF directly there.

  • Though you are correct. I believe the talk you are referring to from Rand is about Google.

  • Hi there, Both Monica and Max have excellent suggestions! Open Site Explorer (OSE) can show you highly valued inbound links!  Do keep in mind that we can't index the whole interwebz so OSE is likely not displaying 100% of your backlinks. We start from sites with high domain authority, and crawl downward through links that we determine to have high priority. So I would suggest heading over there to check that out! If you feel that you really do need a full backlink profile then AHrefs is a popular service for that feature! I hope this helps, and have a wonderful day! Cheers, Jordan - Moz Help Team

  • Thanks very much for getting back to me, Jordan. Yes it does clarify and I hadn't realised I could toggle between domain & subdomain like that. It makes sense now! Have a good weekend
