  • Thanks for your answers. I'll assume then that 'Internal Nofollow links' are included in the Links Overview report more for information, than as a factor that goes towards DA. I think I was confused because the competitors website had Internal Nofollow highlighted in green with a tick (see image in OP), that made me think it was included as a factor in DA.

  • Hi Maureen! Meghan from the Help Team here at Moz. Thanks so much for the great question! I'm sorry to hear about your client's rankings. I do want to make sure to mention Domain Authority is not a metric used by Google in determining search rankings and has no effect on the SERPs. Regarding the keyword ranking changes you’re seeing in your Campaign, I’d be glad to take a closer look. I’ll reach out to you shortly via email once I investigate!

  • In addition to all the features that went into calculating the old DA, we consider the quality of the site that links to the domain you’re researching. As a result, links from valuable sources will be given more weight in the calculation of DA than links from lower quality sources. This update includes a better understanding and consideration for the quality of the sites linking to the site you’re researching, and links to a page that redirect to another page. If you’ve seen your DA decrease this indicates that the model determined that some of the links you have don't correspond with ranking well. Your best bet is to focus your link building efforts on relevant sites that are likely to send you traffic. You can dig deeper into the quality of the linking domains pointing to your site in the overview section of Link Explorer, and reviewing the distribution of your linking domains by DA. You can use the chart to compare your backlink profile to your competitors. Head to Link Explorer > enter your site > scroll down to the Linking Domains by DA graphic. In terms of improving your Domain Authority, with the information above in mind, it's best to look at both your on-page SEO to make sure you've covered the basics. Then you also want to look at your off-site SEO and building more links more links to your site. There are lots of different areas of Link Building to explore, from patching up broken links, to good ol' fashioned content creation. Here is a great video by our founder Rand which goes over some easy link building tactics to get you started. I hope this helps to further clarify!

  • Hey there - thanks for reaching out to us. The new model gives search marketers the ability to more accurately judge the value of a site and their work. The new Domain Authority score offers a more accurate representation of a site’s ranking ability through a machine-learned model that is set to keep pace with Google’s algorithm updates. The model includes proprietary metrics link Spam score and link quality patterns. The inclusion of Spam Score and link quality pattern identification mean that links from valuable sources will be given more weight in the calculation of DA than links from spammy sources.  With spam score, we are measuring the spam score of sites that are linking to you, your own sites spam score does not impact DA. We’ll continue to improve our Domain Authority and Page Authority algorithms and strengthen our link index as the search landscape changes. In terms of future updates, we anticipate this new DA model being quite stable over time. We will keep track of possible changes that we might need to make and we’ll be sure to keep you updated. I hope this helps but please let us know if there's more we can help to clarify!

  • hey, thanks for reaching out! Top Pages in Link Explorer only calculates up to 500 pages, so that CSV is returning all the results we have in Top Pages.  Hope that helps, let me know if you have further questions.

  • Hi Lauren: Do on page factors influence Domain Authority as much as building back links? This is a really key question! I need to decide whether to invest resources in building back links or improving on site SEO. How about internal links? How much do they contribute to domain authority? At the moment my site lacks internal links, would adding them in a relevant manner improve domain authority? While I greatly appreciate your last response it is somewhat ambiguous. Thanks, Alan

  • Hi there! Thanks so much for the great question! I just want to make sure I get you the best answer I can- are you referring to 404 pages in your Campaign's Site Crawl? Or are you seeing 404 pages in the Top Pages of Link Explorer? I'd be happy to look into either of those for you! Can you send an email on over to help@moz.com with some examples of the pages you're working with and where you're seeing them marked as 404s? Thanks so much!

  • You were right! Thank you! What confused me was I thought it was saying that the keyword was found multiple times in multiple H! tags, but what it's really saying is that there are multiple h1 tags period. You rock, thanks!!

  • A follow-up question - when should I be adding keywords to "Lists" vs. "Campaigns"? What are the pros and cons of each feature? The guide doesn't quite address these questions.

  • As I understand it, the way Moz crawls means it won't pick up HTML that is added dynamically. Without knowing which site you are talking about, I can't check, but I worked with a client who had a site that dynamically generated areas of the page after the first draw and that caused some issues with the Moz crawler correctly identifying issues on the site. I would suggest checking with Search Console "Fetch as Google" tool just to make sure Google is "seeing" the page correctly, and, if so, ignore the alerts in Moz.

  • Well, you can't 100% rely on third-party tools anyways they might miss it sometimes especially Moz, they are still rookie in this. The other day, I got an email from Moz saying that we couldn't crawl one of your site "Warning" Red alert etc, Robots.txt isn't there. I doubled check it manually everything was smooth and then I made Moz re-crawl the site to check if everything is okay so yes it was. Moz needs to work hard to improve their tool and it's function it doesn't give you the proff look and feel.

  • Hi there, Jo from the Help Team here. Moz's Spam Score is the percentage of sites with similar features we've found to be penalized or banned by Google. To improve this score I would recommend reading our guide which explains the 27 factors used to make up this score. You can then look at your site and investigate areas you would like to improve on your site: https://moz.com/help/link-explorer/link-building/spam-score Best of luck! Jo

  • Hi there, Hope you are well. Yeap, Moz's metrics are updated more frequently than monthly. Around May this year, there was a really big update in OpenSite explorer, now named: Link explorer. That update came with awesome features and improvements, two of the most relevant: 1- Index being updated every 1-3 days. 2- A bigger index, over 20 times the size of the old OpenSite explorer You can find much more information in these resources: Moz's Link Data Used to Suck... But Not Anymore! The New Link Explorer is Here - Whiteboard Friday Link Explorer - Moz Help Guide Hope it helps. Best luck. GR

  • Hey Steve!  If you have specific questions about reported site crawl issues, you can shoot us an email to help@moz.com.  However if you are looking more for someone to show you how to fix them in Magento, you would need to reach out to Magento support or an SEO consultant to work through the issues as we unfortunately don't offer consulting.  Feel free to reach out to us at that email if you need assistance with the Moz toolsets. thanks

  • Whos website? If it's your site the Google Analytics or Search Console will give you that data. If its someone else then, as effectdigital detailed use something like SEM Rush or Ahrefs

  • Hi there effectdigital Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my question, much appreciated. I have only ever used the .co.uk. domain. The .com has always just been a parked domain name I own that has always redirected to the .co.uk. I have never hosted any content on the .com so I am mystified as to why these links appear. With regard to your point 2. I have moved my website and by moved I mean, killed the old one and rebuilt a totally new one. No link architecture update or anything like that. There should be no links to the old site, even if there were they would be .co.uk ones. As for spam scores on the old site I never collected that data. I only just joined Moz! I think the only thing I can do is follow your point 10 and redirect them. Thanks again Poppy
