Should You Link Back from Client's Website?
Hi everyone We have read through all these comments, but still not sure what to do about this. We do church web design, and our link would be on church websites. That seems relevant to me. These responses go back to 2014. Is there any current advice or information on this topic? Thanks:-)

Spam signals from old company site are hurting new company site, but we can't undo the redirect.
Hi, It is hard to advice if not having all detailed facts. Said this. What about sending those affected pages with a 301 to a new page "site.com/redirect" with a noindex.nofollow? That way, you "tell the crawlers" those spam are not important nor relevant to your website. I implemented twice already; so far so good. The websites have recovered SERPs positions almost instantly, as well as the DA has slowly improved. Some complete redirects from http to https, or to a new domain have unexpected "secondary effects". Although, I noticed that only the Moz Link Research & Back Link Checker have noticed and showed the spam links. Despite Google almost ban the website, vanished from all SERPs, the console never showed the issues at all! Please, update whenever you have news. Mª Verónica B.

Google Penguin penalty is automated or manual?
Hi Furtak, I will send you in PM. Thanks, Satish

What would you say is hurting this site, Penguin or Panda?
Hi Bob, I do agree with Krzysztof that an audit would help see what it going on, but something else to keep in mind is that if a side does get hit with a penalty, then they rarely just go back to where they were beforehand. Check the dates in a little more detail to see what they correspond with. -Andy

It's possible a bounce-rate attack manipulate SEO?
This week most of the rejections (1s sessions) is coming from the countries to which my site does not support (it is local only). So I thought strange.

8th October - anything drastic happen?
phero, once you disavow a domain or a URL, all it takes is for Google to crawl it. Once they crawl the page, they will see that it's been disavowed and recognize it.

Is it OK to Leave Links in Comments ?
This "strategy" is well known but almost never used right. Imo maybe not link building but rather brand building/sales generation strategy.

Key word Ranking are going down
Hi Tariq! Unfortunately there can be a variety of reasons why you might notice your rankings decreasing. Because of this, it's hard to specifically pinpoint where you might be experiencing a problem. Here are the things I would look at that should hopefully improve your rankings: What is your domain age? What is your domain authority? The higher this score, the better! You can work on improving this score by generating high quality backlinks to your website. Are you integrating the keywords into your content well? I can't stress enough how important is it to not overstuff your content! Are you creating optimized title tags for all of your webpages? Are your website's meta descriptions optimized? What is your website speed (on both desktop AND mobile)? You can check this here: https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/ Is your website mobile friendly? This is a ranking factor. You can check this here: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/ Is your website secure? While HTTPs is not a ranking factor yet, I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a ranking factor later down the road. These are only a few places to start with optimizing your website - but I hope this helps you improve your rankings!

Curious, have you ever had a client dispute your Moz Ranking Report?
First of all, the more "trustful" source is Search Console. Second, every other platform uses their own ways to detect the rankings. It's completely normal that it varies in different platforms. Third, remember that when making a human search, that search is biased by our cache, history and whether or not is signed with a Google account. You are checking on a 2nd page rankings, that's even more natural to be unstable. At least that's my experience. If you want to check it yourself, try with a proxy or a vpn. Be cautious to not be logged in Google and to use a cache&history free browser. Best luck. GR.

Competitor Inbound Links Increase from 175K to 1 million in 1 month, how?
This can be pretty easy to do: they could do few 301 redirect from domains with many inbound links they could place sitewide footer links on websites with many pages indexed I don't believe it's a blackhat in 100% but I'm 100% it's not good in long term. Also DA increased so links come from high DA domains too. However high DA doesn't guarantee links are good for seo and always safe.

More than 450 Pages Created by a hacker
Hi Andy, Thank you very much for sharing your experience with the issue. I will do as you said, asking for a standard related to communication. Sadly, as far as I know, at the other side of the line there is plenty of developers, although without no comprehension of SEO. Despite that, it is a pleasure to work for a very technical niche and my client is fully supportive. Also, it helps to develop a quick thinking regarding SEO technical issues; which is not my field of expertise. I shall share your advice about the Wordfence plugin premium. Thanks again. All the best, Mª Verónica B.

Multiple similar links without the penguin?
Thank you Jake! I appreciate your input and do see your point but since the links are completely optional and the linked page at our site basically serves as further explanation on the subject and what the sign/badge stands for…also after watching this https://moz.com/blog/weird-crazy-myths-about-link-building-in-seo-you-should-probably-ignore-whiteboard-friday I can’t help but thinking it would be overly cautious to explicitly tell customers to use nofollow /Anders

Is There Such Thing as Minor Penalties or Restrictions?
Hi Radi, It's hard to say, but with the new penguin update, there is a chance that certain parts or pages of your site might have been affected by the new penguin as a result of spam signals, but there is still a lot of uncertainty. Here is what Google said: "Penguin now devalues spam by adjusting ranking based on spam signals, rather than affecting ranking of the whole site." They said "adjusting ranking" as opposed to penalisation, which looks like your situation. More about it here: https://moz.com/blog/penguin-4-was-it-worth-the-wait I hope this helps! Thanks,
