Should a business requestion nofollow links from businesses it has commercial relationships with?
It is indeed. One the one hand, err on the side of caution - on the other, links are required, but with that many affiliate links, I would have though Google was ignoring them. -Andy

Schema Markup for regular web pages?
I like the blog kissmetrics did on this awhile back: https://blog.kissmetrics.com/get-started-using-schema/ From the article: "Schema markup helps your website rank better for all kinds of content types. There is data markup for… Articles Local businesses Restaurants TV episodes and ratings Book Reviews Movies Software Applications Events Products" What I really enjoy about schema is that it's virtually untapped. Every time I do a SERP analysis it amazes me how few of my client's competitors have optimized with schema. If you're willing to read through the resources on schema.org you'll see there are tons of ways you can markup your data. We've implemented roughly 9 types of schema for one client, including local business, product, offer, and reviews (not sure where the full list is). The neat thing is that you can also mark up specific elements on the page, such as videos or open hours. Another plus to taking the time to slog through it - it's a common language across all search engines. Best of luck!

Something is strange, should be ranking fairly well - no visibility.
Hi Sno! Great question here. International SEO can definitely be a tricky beast! And I'll definitely take you up on that free dogsled ride in Lapland if I can help you Some questions for you: .se is Sweden, yes? And Lapland is in Finland, right? Is your domain targeted just towards Sweden in Search Console (assuming you have that set up) or is there no international targeting set? Though from looking at your page you're in Kiruna, Sweden, so this shouldn't be an issue. The page is cached, but I see that it hasn't been recached (or potentially even crawled) since Dec 26, 2016. Link to cache. How long has this site been live? I am not seeing any external links to it. You're not up against any hugely formidable competitors, but they do have more links than you. So work on that! By the way, I did a search for your term and see you ranking #74 in Google.com. So yeah, build some links and get that ranking up! John

Spammy Website Framed My Site & Stole Rankings
There is no hard and fast answer to this. I've seen a DMCA request with Google take over a year to respond to, and I've seen it take a couple of months. Treat it as a marathon instead of a sprint. If you're lucky you'll be one of the ones whose case is examined and quickly rectified but expect this to take awhile.

Is a Link Wheel Safe If I Control the Wheel?
Howdy, Well, to my understanding is that link wheel is a link wheel. No matter if you own the domains/hosting or not. If you do something spammy or potentially "illegal" in the eyes of Google, they won't care who owns the domain

Why Google cached another site, not mine?
Hello, I'm not sure if this is still open issue, also happy Christmas (saw the post date) you may find the following helpful: https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/6349986?hl=en or https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/removals you can also use a tag to avoid Google caching the site - <meta< span="">name="robots"content="noarchive"> Hope some of that helps.</meta<>

My site just dropped significant!
Chris and Mike both make great points! If you choose to consolidating under one domain, consider creating geo-targeted pages for each of the countries/service areas you want to make sure you're ranking for. The content can be similar to a point, but that way your website will still target the areas you care about. Chris' point about the challenges of authority with multiple sites raises a great point, too. Get authority up through link building, social campaigns, etc, and you could see some positive changes.

I show different versions of the same page to the crawlers and users, but do not want to do anymore
Hi there Ideally, create one page that serves both search engines and users, because you want users to find your page via search engines and you want search engines to be able to crawl your content. It's thought that Google is getting better at crawling Javascript, but you need to make sure that you text or content is readable in a text-based browser or is visible to Google with Javascript off. Here's a resource for you. That being said, focus on having one page for the content you're trying to create, so you can put more SEO efforts into building the equity in that page. You can also build other pages around variations of that topic that link back to that page, and link to these new pages from the one main topic page as well. This will help build your site from both a topic standpoint and passing linking equity throughout your site. Let me know if this makes sense or helps. Best of luck! Patrick

C-Block and link juice
For one link, I would not worry a bit about it. You are allowed to link out to other sites as long is the linking is not paid or manipulative. If you have any fears at all use nofollow. If you are not using nofollow, start worrying if you have a lot of links. Get really scared if you have a bunch of sites with a rats nest of links.

Negative seo by Shady SEO Firm?
After further looking at his search results I noticed that his keyword that he was number 1 for the last 3 years. Tacoma Auto Care was still showing high up in the organic results. Number 4 behind 2 yelp results and one other company. But he was still number 10 to 15 in the 3-pack results for the same keyword. This leads me to conclude that the Yellowpage links destroyed his NAP with all the different cities they added. See picture attached Also when you use the same search terms in BING there is NO LOCAL Penalty. Bing Tacoma Auto Care Bing Tacoma Auto Repair www.philsautocareinc.com shows up number 1 and number 3 respectively. Now we all know how to knock out our local competition in Google Don't We? 12192016233328.PNG

Client Wants To Use A .io Domain Name - How Bad For Organic?
How much does he plan to spend on marketing to reinforce his brand? I believe .io will rank on Google just as easily as .net .info .us etc. but how much will it take to rank in their customer's brain? I have a .us and 7.5 years later I still have to reinforce the domain when I am talking to a client. It's like trying to get a client to say chartreuse instead of lime green.

Infinite Scrolling on Publisher Sites - is VentureBeat's implementation really SEO-friendly?
Totally agreed, Daniel! I'd also say it's our job to set expectations and be clear about when something is a test vs when something will more than likely work. Consulting is all about setting expectations!

Site traffic halved not sure why
Hi Martjin, Yes, this is the first thing I checked. In fact I checked it in GA > Acquisition > Search Console which enables you to filter the data quite well by regex. What I found is that it's pretty much across the board with the homepage as well as individual product pages taking a hit of around 50% reduction. It's definitely NOT traffic on a few higher volume keywords as the major drop that's hurt quite a lot is traffic to individual product pages. That indicates to me that it seems to be some kind of a site-wide penalty. I did also notice that traffic to product print pages (where the product is in a print-friendly format) effectively went from say 300 to like 30 (and probably not much can be done there), but it's the overall traffic from SERPs that's more concerning, particularly to long-tail product pages. So I'm pretty confident it's some sort of a penalty, but no idea why it's would be applied besides what I've already flagged in my original post

To buy or not to buy? Domains with history..
Julie thanks for your reply with which I agree mostly. However there may be a opportunity to use good names if the passage of time and removal or dropping of all links has 'sanitized' the url.. question is how to have this confirmed...

Google Disavow Link Request
New to creating disavow files and I have a few questions: My client site has upwards of 2K bad/spam inbound links. Old site had gotten hacked. Q: Should I submit all of these at once or is it better to upload them in 'batches'. Does it matter? I will not have 2k links in my file as I am using the 'domain:' on alot of them. Some seem to be 'one offs' if you will, from some of the domains in the list and I am listing those separately. Q: is that the proper way to structure my file? Can I have individual URL's in the list along with using the domain: approach? Q: Do I need to include both the "www" and non "www" version of the domains in my list when using domain: ? EXAMPLE: domain:www.exampleone.com domain:exampleone.com domain:www.exampletwo.com domain:exampletwo.com http://www.spammeddomain1.com/path/to/badlink.html http://www.spammeddomain2.com/path/to/badlink.html Is this acceptable??? Thank you in advance

Buying links - where is the line drawn?
ok, I accept the points raised above and understand where you are coming from. The difficulty I am having is that I want to outsrouce link building/content reach (and yes, in white hat manner), but everyone I speak to seems to have a 'network' of sites they can build links from which really worries me as I'm sure google will spot a pattern. How do I outsource without having this issue?
