  • No see: http://www.rimmkaufman.com/blog/site-search-dynamic-content-and-seo/01032013/ http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/search-results-in-search-results/ My feeling is that if that site search info captures long-tail traffi,c why not find a way to make an indexable page targeting the words that have received traffic to that search page.  Cutts writes in the post I linked to:  "Google does reserve the right to take action to reduce search results (and proxied copies of websites) in our own search results"

  • Yes definitely adding the Infographics at the top is the best way. Make sure you syndicate the infographics on various social media profiles as well.

  • Going after competitor backlinks is always a crapshoot, but you can start by trying to figure out how your competitors got their links up. Failing that, really try to learn more about the site and who's responsible for updating the site. Think of ways that your site could add value to their readers, then ask the website owner if they can add the link. As with any interaction, try to provide value first before asking for it. Another tactic that may work is broken link building. Find links on their site that are broken, and create content that was similar to what was being linked to before, and see if they'll replace the link.

  • I don't know if this is what you were going for or not, but I seriously am listening to Journey's Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin' right now and just read your post... either way, made me laugh. Mike

  • As everyone else has said, it doesn't really make a difference whether you have a file/extension as part of the URL. But if you do change your URLs and 301 redirect the old URLs to the new, you will lose some link equity (typically about 10%-15%); I'm not sure if this devaluation is reflected in OSE/Moz metrics. That said, I would recommend showing the directory without a file extension (using consumerbase.com/ instead of consumerbase.com/index.html). If you change platforms in the future to something that runs off PHP or some other language, displaying .html file types might not be an option but you can always display the directory. If you set yourself up now to display without the doc type, you don't have to worry about these changes in the future as much.

  • I would do this. I personally don't think 250 404's is too much to knock out within a few hours. If you were in the thousands it would be a different concern. Use excel to make this faster and 301

  • If you know they are bad, I would recommend diavowing them. You never know when or if you'll get a warning. I would err on the side of caution and go ahead and disavow. There is nothing saying you have to, but it makes the most sense to me.

  • Generally speaking, Google will put whatever they think is the most appropriate in the SERPs for your title.  It is annoying but the are doing it to "help" the user experience. Mark is on the right track with what he is suggesting.  We had a similar issue for a group of pages on our site.  Google was showing the URL slug vs the title we had put in - that was annoying!   We just tweaked the title a bit as it was already within the normal "parameters" of what people suggest as best practices. I think the update of tags make G take another look and our tags were updated an shown appropriately within a few weeks. It is almost like your old TVs or radios, you need to "kick em" to get them to reset and work.  That seemed to help in this case with us and title tags and SERPs on G. Cheers!

  • Hey, You are coming at this from a slightly wrong perspective. Is your app good? Would people reading a review on this site be likely to buy your app? Is this site visible in search when people search for app reviews related to your app? If the reviews are good and the site brings value then getting exposure on the site and a link as part of the bargain would most likely be a good thing. If the site sucks and is a free for all with 15 word reviews in pigeon English then it may not be such a good thing but it would be unlikely to be harmful. Forget the metrics for now. Think quality and exposure. If the site is highly visible and high quality and you get some exposure via this site and may get referral traffic as well then a link is likely to be a good thing whether it helps your SEO or not. Hope that helps Marcus

  • Let's assume that all on-page factors are held equal - essentially both pages get a grade of A when you run them through the Moz campaign tool - everything on the page is dialed in. And, internal linking to each page is identical. There are only 3 factors remaining: Number of external links pointing at your page. Level of competition in each SERP. The fact that your business is recognized as being in Miami. Due to the fact that these 2 pages are new, let's pretend that you haven't manually built any external links to either page. Next factor is the level of competition in that SERP. Considering it's Miami vs. New York, I'm not surprised that New York isn't performing as well right off the bat. Build up some more internal links and do some external link building, and more long term build up your Domain Authority. You'll get there. Final factor is the fact that the business is in MIami. That absolutely makes a difference. You're just going to have to hustle harder to get into the New York SERP without the benefit of having local signals due to the business location.

  • We have already tried that but what happens is, when an infographic is published on a blog page and embed code points to another internal landing page then people don’t really use that embed code.  Most of the links we get from infographics point to our home page because bloggers do alter embed codes and prefer to link to infographic post and home page. As you know infographic images are generally large and if we try to add infographic to our existing landing page then page size will further increase which won’t be good for the user experience and can also affect page load time. Can you please give reference of some landing pages which are using infographics so that we can analyze those further ? Thanks,

  • The good news is that a lot of our rankings have stabilized somewhat, and we are doing better than expected. We need to build more content and backlinks, but we have a decent foundation. When can you feel relatively (in SEO safe is extremely relative) safe that your rankings have settled? Any indications?

  • Thanks for that - I think what I am trying to do is somehow cut the linkjuice dilution - my DA is weak and the mega menu contains around 150 links with all the cats / subcats... so my link juice is diluted all over the place. We have 1750 products but only 50 hits per day - Any suggestions? www.eHYPHENcocinasplusDOTcom. Thanks

  • Hi, we are using MOZ to monitor errors and warnings. It helped identify some issues we didn't know that we had in terms of some duplicate meta data. The biggest error or warning that is still an issue is the number of links on some of our pages. Anyway, we actually have only had MOZ now for about 4-5 months out of the time frame I described. We have seen some improvements. Our conversion rate has improved slightly and we have also seen less cart abandonment as a result of some of the changes we made to our sites. Traffic wise things are a little harder to address. On one level we are seeming to have more "new" visitors to our sites but our overall traffic is down. This is a little misleading though as our spokesperson has also started to take a step back as she nears retirement, so we have had much less major media appearances, etc. It does seem as though we are doing a little better in search rankings for some of our keywords though.

  • Alan, I get what you are saying but since Google Penguin focuses on back link profile and relevancy I strongly do believe that you need to take this into consideration. If you put your business name on every website you create with a link to your websites you'll have links from maybe cooking websites, financial websites, recreational websites all pointing to an internet markerting websites. Since there is not relevancy between to links from and to the site you're creating non usefull links. I read a post on this subject in the Moz blog section of this site not to long ago about this particular subject. I just searched for the article but couldn't find it that fast. For the visitors the links can be usefull but for a seaerchengine there is not substatial value in these links. Do you get what I mean with that? regards Jarno
