How to optimize this iphone app
Hi Bob, There's a few key areas which have an impact on app store rankings: keywords in title and description ratings (therefore make sure you're addressing any issues and responding to negative reviews) downloads You can also translate the title and description into other languages, as this can help increase downloads from other countries (provided your app works internationally, international users will potentially be able to use it even if its primary language is English). And you can promote it on your site; ideally, detect the user agent of your mobile visitors and show them the version for their device. I'd also suggest testing Facebook promoted posts which allow users to be taken directly to the app store to download your app. Hope that helps!

Link Anchor Text - Best Practice?
Hi Mark, Is the link part of a navigation menu? If so I don't see any problem with leaving it as 'Home'. If you're linking within the body of a page (for instance in a blogpost), something like 'visit the homepage' or just a branded term should be fine.

If a website trades internationally and simply translates its online content from English to French, German, etc how can we ensure no duplicate content penalisations and still maintain SEO performance in each territory?
Hi David, Great question, don't be to worried. There's litle chance that Google wil penalize you if you translated unique content in to a new language. However there is a way to make sure you won't get into trouble later on and this will also make sure that the right language of the content is ranking in the right country; hreflang. By directing Google to another page for the same content in another language it will most likely rank that page for the content. More information on using HREF lang can be found here: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/189077?hl=en .

How to remove the certain backlinks completely ?
I agree with Jane. I apologize earlier I assumed you had done a disavowal request. There is not much harm in waiting a month to find out if the site has been crawled and then see if Google reflects the changes in Webmaster tools. However if you do a disavowal you could possibly do damage to your your site's ranking. As I believe someone already has said sites that have had links less likely to get crawled as often as sites that are not in need of link removal. Therefore I could definitely be the problem. Sincerely, Thomas

Show Decorative Details or Consolidate Pages with Attributes
The key word is a xyz design measuring spoon. The only difference is how they are displayed or attached to each other. Actually, your opinion about the keywords made me see I could improve my keyword phrase "xyz design measuring spoon ." I'll go with that and the 1 page. Thank you JDP

A good review schema markup tutorial?
Hi Imedia, Smart questions. Let me explain how to differentiate these two forms of user generated content. Reviews: These should be posted directly by the customer on third party platforms (think Yelp, YP, etc.). You should never post a review on behalf of a customer and should not set up a station in your place of business to collect them from customers. Always let customers post reviews on their own, using their own accounts. Also, never take a review off a third party site and re-publish it on your website. You can link from your website to your review profile on third party sites, but do not re-publish the reviews found there. Further, do not encourage customers to post the same review across multiple sites. Be sure to read the guidelines of each of the major review sites so that you know what is allowed in terms of solicitation. For example, Yelp forbids you to ask customers for reviews. They want it to be completely spontaneous. Google doesn't mind review solicitation, provided you are not specifically asking for positive reviews. All reviews should be unbiased. Here is a super page in our new Moz Local Learning Center that links directly to the review guidelines of top platforms. This should really help you: http://moz.com/learn/local/understanding-review-guidelines Testimonials: These are reviews of your business that you are receiving orally or in writing from your customers and then publishing directly on your own website. Do not ever publish these on third party sites, as if you were the customer. Only publish them on your own website. You can put them on a single testimonials page, or you can seed them on different pages, as appropriate, throughout your website. It's great to earn both reviews on third party sites and testimonials on your own site. Both assets make you stronger! There is a paid tool you might like to know about if you're getting serious about creating a review and testimonial acquisition campaign. Check out getfivestars.com. This is a unique and very powerful little tool that walks your customers through a process of leaving feedback and then being guided to either leave a testimonial or review. It also allows you to intervene with a customer who had a negative experience, lessening the chances of them leaving a negative review. You can, of course, handle review and testimonial acquisition manually, but you might at least like to consider GetFiveStars if you're considering implementing a really polished, concrete campaign. Hope this helps!

We're currently not using schemas on our website. How important is it? And are websites across the globe using it?
Hi Pawan, You're welcome Yes, I believe you are correct in saying that the data highlighter really only translates to Google right now. However, it seems Bing and Yahoo1 really are doing very little with structured data right now. I think it depends on your industry regarding your timeline of adding the markup. If you are in the restaurant, food or travel industry, I think you really have to start now just to stay competitive. If you're in a niche, maybe it's not so crucial. One thing's for sure, what's true about structured data now will probably be different in 6 months, so whatever you do now will need to reviewed over time, just like most anything else related to SEO There's always something new and always something changing. That's why we love it right? Dana

Manual Webspam Error by Google!
Hi Jane, to clarify, the site had been hit heavily by Panda in 2011 and again in 2012 by Penguin. Both are prior to the manual spam action, so we are aware of the impact each has had. The purpose of the post was to see if anyone within the community has experienced a similar error in communication from Google and could recommend a course of address. We are also aware of the backlink profile and manipulated anchors, but would like to thank you for your analysis. Regarding the miscommunication, we have decided to approach a few individuals from the webspam team on Google + for a resolution. Thanks again for your input : ) M.

How to block search bots in crawling my site except for homepage?
Robots.txt exclusion is definitely the easiest way to go. The URLs within the site might still be "indexed", but they will not be crawled and if they ever showed up in a search, they would look like something like this: http://i.imgur.com/xU6mDYA.png

Link Juice + Site Structure
Hi Mark, One of the verticals we work with is the legal industry (lots of lawyer related sites). In our experience, we have gotten good results with both structures, sites with pages just one level down from the home page and others that have pages 2 or 3 levels down. In both instances the pages in question were ranking quite well and a lot of times at the top of the search results. In Matt Cutt's own words: I would recommend the first-order things to pay attention to are 1) making great content that will attract links in the first place, and 2) choosing a site architecture that makes your site usable/crawlable for humans and search engines alike.

Replatforming possible issue with Submitting URLS
Hi Matt, When you say submitting urls to google I assume you mean via a sitemap in GWT? If so there is no reason for the url changes to cause any issues/penalties - you already have a sitemap with the old urls right? So the new one would have a similar number of urls simply with different paths to the same content... no problems there. The biggest threat to organic traffic is not having complete and proper 301 redirects in place for all (or most) pages which can potentially cause quite a bit of damage so make sure you have covered all the bases for the 301s!

Domain Forwarding - SEO Impacts?
ok William fair call. I was taking the question in general way though as he asked for the best way to do this, frame or location. Most do location. End of the day we know neither is of any use and should research this. Virginia
