Migration to https
Hi Kevin & TorontoV, Thanks for your responses, and your warning signs concerning a migration to https. We recently launched a new website and we are going to 'migrate' this one first before taking any action on our main webshop. Since we had'nt received any backlinks until now on the new domain, there is no thread for this one. @Kevin: I'll definitely follow your advice not migrating until Google gives a countdown message for our main domain. Thanks again! Marcel

Why is my site ranking so poorly compared to my competition?
Hey Matt, do you think you could do me a HUGE favor. You said I have these low quality backlinks. I am unable to see them or figure out how to generate a decent report to show those out-of-country backlinks. Could you send me a report of these or potentially tell me how you saw them and where I could? Thank you!

Unique page for each product variant? (Not eCommerce)
Cheers for the input Nico, you're right. Variant is not the right word I just can't find the right terminology ha! Our product is always the same it can just be applied to all models of car/van etc so this may be one of those grey areas. It's a vague question really, I think we'll just have to run a trial and see what happens over a few months. Thanks for taking the time! Jamie

Can you use Screaming Frog to find all instances of relative or absolute linking?
This only works if you have downloaded all the HTML files to your local computer. That said, it works quite well! I am betting this is a database driven site and so would not work in the same way.

Will doing a 301 redirect for one domain to another give the latter domain the formers links?
I'll look in to confirming ownership of the redirected domains just to make sure everything's above board!

Suite Numbers and Schema
Miriam here, signed into Mozzer Alliance at the moment. Yes, include the suite number within span tags, definitely. You are also right that Google wants suites in the second address line, but for Schema purposes, do include them within the address section.

301 and 200 Status Issues
Hi Carl! I just took a look and it looks to me like your page is working correctly? The Ayima Redirect Checker and using http://httpstatus.io/ with Googlebot as the agent, I see a 301 to a 200 on www.http://httpstatus.io/. Are you still seeing the issue in your Moz reports? I don't think you have anything to worry about, as I don't see any non-www bmirsearch.com URLs except for your expected subdomains when I do this Google search: site:bmiresearch.com -site:www.bmiresearch.com -site:store.bmiresearch.com -site:careers.bmiresearch.com -site:bmo.bmiresearch.com

Is using outbrains legal in Googles eyes?
As long as the 1k of traffic is strongly engaging with your site, then yes it is good. Alan details the no follow attributes.

Drupal's Yoast
Just wanted to post this here for anyone else who views this question - a tool that claims to be very similar to Yoast for Wordpress. http://getlevelten.com/products/oe/search-engine-optimization I haven't looked into it any further at this point so can't offer an opinion.

Could I optimize my homepage anymore ?
Tons of great answers in here! I also recommend checking out Rand's latest blog post, which addresses this questions of "so my site's optimized, what do I do now?"

Need to de-index certain pages fast
Yes, but as you've blocked them now they won't (shouldn't) get reindexed. So you've already taken care of permanently. Using the tool will remove them now and then you've done the rest.

Canonical issues using Screaming Frog and other tools?
Hello I spotted this thread and was just about to reply, but Dirk has answered it all perfectly. Thanks Dirk! Under 'reports' there's also a 'canonical errors' report which will show canonicals with various technical issues - Those that are blocked by robots.txt, have no response, 3XX redirect, 4XX or 5XX error (essentially anything other than a 200 ‘OK’ response). It will also show any URLs discovered only via a canonical, that are not linked to internally from the sites own link structure (in the ‘unlinked’ column when ‘true’). Hope that helps anyway. Cheers! Are Review Dates Necessary in Schema markup for Ratings to Appear in SERPS?
Hi Schmeetz, I've had a rough time getting reviews to work for schema as well. The structured data testing tool can give you a positive when something's actually missing that'll stop Google from displaying your stars. The nice thing is, if you're using structured data, Google will update their listings as soon as they recrawl the page, so you can test things fairly easily. Use Google Webmaster Tools to "Fetch as Google" and "Submit to Index" to get a page with new code recrawled within an hour or so. I don't think you need dates in order to get star ratings on SERPs. I haven't needed them on my company's site. But, I noticed that all of your markup is using content tags rather than marking up actual content on the page. My guess is, that's the issue, that Google doesn't trust content that isn't seen on the page. Have you tried marking up the actual content? _Note: _Google will also sometimes blacklist domains from displaying reviews. This isn't an issue for you, but for others reading this: you can test it by searching for "site: [product URL]". If Google displays the ratings then, it's not a technical issue, it's a blacklisting issue. Test out marking up visible HTML text and let us know how it goes! Best, Kristina
