  • From my experience, several different Javascript and Ajax elements can confuse Google. While you obviously don't want to outright avoid their use, it's always good to have someone knowledgeable sift though any code written externally (like a WP theme or plugin, in your case) to ensure that content is always present, even when it isn't necessarily "called" yet.

  • Hi there. Well, the key would be how many backlinks there are and how likely for your blog to lose its rankings and value if you move it off that high DA domain. Also do consider that generally 100 backlinks from the same domain is not bringing as much of a juice as 1 backlink from 100 domains. Some say it's really referral domain what matter, not as much as quantity of backlinks from that domain. Hope this makes sense.

  • I agree with Alick, this does not matter much and I don’t think this will have any impact on rankings.

  • I personally prefer the language subfolder closer to the domain e.g. www.example.com/en/example-ny.html but really it would all depend on what parts of your site you provide in alternate languages. If you provide only pages past the sub-directory **/example-ny/ **I would place it after this directory. But I highly doubt you only offer alternate languages on only the pages that provide details about the property. ** I www.example.com/en/example-ny.htm**l

  • That's a good point about keeping the page indexed if it's being 301 redirected. There are approximately 900 properties listed with maybe 50-100 leaving the site each month. Would it be best to give a 410 HTTP response code? There won't be a lot of direct traffic to these pages, the main issue is with how Google sees the page. Users will search for it while it's listed but we're not talking about a large amount of traffic.

  • Hi there! We've actually got a lot of materials that should be able to help you out. I'd definitely recommend you read our Beginner's Guide to SEO, and even though it's getting to be on the older side, Cyrus Shepard's How to Rank. You'll be able to find a lot more resources on our Learn SEO page, as well. Because there's so much that can go into an SEO strategy, I'm afraid it'd really be a lot to ask community members here to guide you through every step. We have a list of recommended consulting companies if you'd like to hire a consultant, though.

  • Hi Stu, How are you setting up these 301 redirects? In the code itself? Or, nginx/apache config? Could you please share the redirection rules you've mentioned for this? It seems an issue with redirection rules itself.

  • What could you do if the Duplicate description was the actual wording " Product Description " ? Using BigCommerce they have it set up this way and It's rather baffling it is so.

  • "If you pay for a directory link only to gain position in the SERPs you will most probably not get any ROI" Meaning if you are on the first page there won`t be ROI? I dont think so!

  • Alan, I'm sure this goes without saying but please make sure there are 301 redirects from the http version to the HTTPS version otherwise your gonna have one hell of an organic traffic decline.

  • Let me get this right before I start answering. You have one article having an issue (just one) that is AU and UK, has hreflang implemented, is indexed for keyword searches but not showing for site: searches in Google. Few questions. Have you geo-targeted the subfolders for AU and UK? What version of Google are you using to check indexation? When you say you checked internal links for both, how did you do that? Your own site search (searching on your own site) does not return the UK article? Or do you mean that the site: search is not bringing up the UK article?

  • Not sure if this is the reason why your pages are not ranking. I am working on a project where it has over 30 duplicate title tags and those pages rank well 1-10 for about 20 pages. The domain is really old.  Registered since 1997. The website is just as old.

  • Right, I am familiar with. Actually what I have done is kind of interesting in that regard. The product I work with is a CMS that produces large CSS and JS files. So I have profiled the CSS to render the above the fold, then after the page is loaded append the full CSS file to style the rest. The same with the JS too. The reason it can't go into production like that is because the unsightly flash of unstyled content. But it seems the crawlers are picking them up fine for the cached page images.
