Hi! I'm wondering whether for keyword SEO - a url should be www.salshoes.com/shoes/mens/day-wear (so with a few parent categories) or www.salshoes.com/shoes-mens-day-wear is ok for on page optimization?
Well said Brian. The solution I suggested was for a scalable system which is not dependent on the number of product. IMHO, one shouldn't think about 5-15 products while working on a project like URL structure even if you're planning to not scale that much. P.S Thinking about a scalable solution won't hurt you anyways, it'll rather add value if you're planning to scale at any time.

Getting high priority issue for our xxx.com and xxx.com/home as duplicate pages and duplicate page titles can't seem to find anything that needs to be corrected, what might I be missing?
You bet! Hope that gets everything squared away for you.

Both links with ".html" and without are working , Is that a problem ?
If the canonical tag is on the page, despite the fact the page loads in either version only the one that you have in your canonical tag will be indexed. As far the Moz reports these are not updated minute by minute, to see if the canonical tag has fixed the problem in Moz's reports you'll have to wait till they do their next crawl (once a week). You may also use Google's Webmaster and ask for a re-crawl after you made changes. Hope that helps, Don

Do links going to HTTP benefit HTTPS domain authority?
I have had few clients move 100% to HTTPS and nothing bad happen as in going backwards and I won't lie I haven't seen great gain from it either. I haven't heard of anyone getting great gains from it but not moving the whole site to it is most likely doing more bad than good. Also if you have gone backwards after moving to HTTPS there could be errors. too. I would do the following: Move the whole site to HTTPS Check that HTTPS is setup right. Can do this at http://www.webconfs.com/http-header-check.php Review any errors in webmaster tools or use a tool like semrush to check for errors. Insure all 301 from http to https is setup right and leave it for a month and see what happens.

My 404 page is returning a 404
You need to look at the CSV version of your Moz crawl. It will show what pages link to it.

Facebook widget and blocked images
Hey Michael I wouldn't be concerned, Google stated recently that blocked 3rd party images should not be an issue.

302 a Homepage?
I have a similar situation. I've run an A/B test that indicates that the existing home page (let's call this A) doesn't convert as well as a deeper page (call it B), even for visitors who have seen no other pages on the site. Until the new home page (A) is ready, I want to take advantage of the immediate gains available by redirecting traffic, in the short term, to B. I'm confident that 302 is the "correct" way of doing this, since the redirect is temporary, but I'm spooked about how Google will treat this. Matt, both A and B are already indexed, and both will remain "live" after the permanent fix is in place. Would you still have concerns about a 302?

Is there an SEO advantage to blog content being a child of /blog/ rather than the homepage?
Very helpful, thanks!

Duplicate Content
Hi Gemma, Strange! Typically, %20 is the symbol that content management systems use to convert spaces into allowable characters in URLs. Have you found any URLs that were written in the HTML with an accidental space? That said, I know I'm a Moz associate and all, but Moz and Ahrefs are not nearly as good at understanding the web as Google; it's completely possible that these are errors that their crawlers are picking up, but Google isn't having a problem. Try searching for "site:[duplicate URL]" to see if Google is indexing this "duplicate content." I just checked with the example you provided, and it's not in Google's index. If some other duplicate content URLs are in Google's index, then I'd use Google Analytics to determine where the traffic is coming from to these pages, in order to find where the URLs are written incorrectly. Hope this helps! Kristina

Making a site mobile friendly
Hi, I can't see any reason why Google would object to this. Mobile and desktop sites are often very different and have different elements showing - in fact, I can't think of many where they are identical in terms of showing everything. My own site hides elements from Google via mobile (option via the theme) and I make good use of this as you don't want a huge page on mobile - it's about quick conversions and getting the point across on a much smaller screen. -Andy

What is best practice for fixing urls that have duplicate content, non-static and other issues?
you could introduce breadcrumbs. It will make the URL nicer in the search results of google without changing the URL!

Sitemap Contains Blocked Resources
Thanks for the latest responses guys I have researched it into the grave and it the way Magento generates the sitemap makes it impossible for me to exclude these URLS. I will just unblock them from robots, and make them all noindex. This seems to solve all problems, i will then block them when im 100% sure they are unindexed. Thanks Again chaps. Big help as always.

Duplicate content
Using Noindex is a solution to prevent any problems, but what about linking to your original (law) source? The page could be indexed and as long as you have enough good quality content on your website you should not have any trouble i think. CleverPHD makes a good point about writing some text of your own!

Bing rankings question
That sounds like it. You need to add both versions of your site (http and https) to WMT and see if there is data in the https. Then make sure that you pick one (if you go https, make sure you have the right certificates set up) and redirect any requests for the other to the right one.

How much impact does bad html coding really have on SEO?
Hi Chammy, I inherited a site that reported 3,184 crawl errors in MOZ and a significant number of them (nearly 600) were duplicate titles and content. I have that down to under 1,000 total errors and only 86 critical errors. I have seen my ranking grow pretty substantially and in one week had 6 pages increase over 20 positions in rank. I can share the MOZ Rank Report if you would like to see it. So yes, it does have an impact.
