  • My recommendation would be to place all refinements into a single parameter. You mentioned a 40GB, External hard drive with a black case. How about "40gb-external-black". There is also the possibility of simply using a model number which represents the many choices available. The question becomes, what is the purpose of adding this information to the URL? Do you want users to be able to read the URL? Or is the need strictly on your end?

  • I just don't know. Would you mind putting in the URL to your homepage. I am just going to scan the code for anything unusual. I once had some strange code show up on every page of my group of personal websites. I somehow got hacked. It is a shot in the dark but I don't mind doing a quick scan. You may also want to post this on the Google Webmaster blog as well. Also, if you do any paid advertising with Google.. ask your account rep.

  • I dont think is possible using Rank Checker tool. Either you can scrap the search results and found your rankings threw a customized script. or you can use google docs with importXML function =ImportXML("http://www.google.com.qa/search?hl=ar&q={KEYWORD}&num=100", "//h3[@class='r']/a/@href") use conditional formatting or a Vlookup ..ur choise

  • Hi Krista. Stephan offers good advice. Since you are at the point of adjusting URLs I would add a bit: Which format is better? www.client.com/Pages/keyword-phrase.aspx or www.client.com/Pages/Keyword-Phrase.aspx A simple rule to follow, always use lower case letters in URL folders and page names. Another improvement would be to never use technology extensions in page names. The .aspx portion of your URL offers no value to users nor search engines. It makes your URL appear longer and more complicated. Drop it. The best URL for your page would be: www.client.com/pages/keyword-phrase All major CMS software can work with these standards. The adjustments should be relatively simple. If your software does not support this change, you are likely using a custom CMS or an outdated one. Either way I would recommend you use CMS software which is flexible enough to allow you to comply with known best practices.

  • Thanks for the reply Peter. By reviewing your site I can share the following: your site is still indexed by Google. you could open a Reconsideration Request with Google to determine if your site has received a manual penalty: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/reconsideration you need to analyze your traffic using Google Analytics. EXACTLY where is the traffic drop? You need to analyze specific sources such as Google organic search traffic for specific keywords. I tried a longtail keyword search for your site based on the first blog article I located "top 5 reasons to visit honduras". You ranked #7 for the phrase. It's not surprising as the page has a PR of 1. have you noticed any ranking drop for a specific keyword or page? The only way to troubleshoot this issue is to dig into your analytics data.

  • Hi Svetoslav, Great question because I saw exactly something like this a couple of weeks ago in our own Google Webmaster Tools. Google tried to crawl "urls" on our side which were used to generated pageviews for Google Analytics by using the _trackPageview. So we had a lot of urls like "/print" within our Not Found crawl errors. I won't recommend creating new URLs and using a 301 redirect to "cover" them, for a couple of reasons: From my opinion the Not Found errors do not harm you're rankings within the SERPs, to give you an idea or maybe you experienced it yourself. We have ten thousands of Not Found errors because our content changes on a daily basis and we saw it makes no sense. Google is trying to crawl urls which don't exist because they are text, so it looks like to me they are doing something wrong. And I also would like to share this thread from WebmasterWorld ( ), it includes an interesting angle in my opinion: "S_ave the 301 (and its machine process) for important cases"._ What do you think?

  • Thank you. Yes, that's pretty much the plan I am executing now. Right now I'm struggling to get this working with the URL rewriting module in IIS 7 but I am sure it's possible. Thanks again. Mark

  • Thanks Robert.  Very helpful.  I actually started doing that just before I read this so I hope that means I'm thinking in the right direction.  I just decided to go ahead and delete my listings for the time being ... I didn't have any reviews that will be really lost so I'll just start from scratch once I see his listing disappear. Thank you everyone for your help on this..

  • There is one other possibility and that would be the "canonical redirect." If your site is PMA (only one I saw with PA 21 in serps), when you put www.yourdomain.com in you get a page auth of 33 to go with your DA 21. But, when you put in the root without the www, ( yourdomain.com ) you get a PA of 18 and your linking root domains drop a bit.... from 42 to 1. In WordPress, with any of the SEO plugins we have used (All in one, Genesis, etc), the canonical redirect does not happen. You have to do it in the .htaccess file. There are plenty of good directions for how to: query .htaccess redirects. Or, there are several gurus around moz who can post directions here..... (I'm not one) My guess is that when you do this, you will see a change in short time (few weeks at most).

  • Hi Wayne, When you choose Root Domain, you get three results DA (Domain Authority) DmR (Domain mozRank) and Dmt (Domain mozTrust) for the entire domain. When you set it to Subdomain, you get only DmR and DmT for the active subdomain. For example, if the URL in the address bar is www.yourdomain.com, then the DmR and DmT are for the www subdomain only. If the URL is another.yourdomain.com, then the DmR and DmT are for the another subdomain only etc. You can check this by setting your MozBar to "Root Domain" and going to http://googleblog.blogspot.com/. Once the page is loaded, change the MozBar setting to "Subdomain" and you will see the results change. Then, replace googleblog with www and you will actually see the results change and change again as the page redirects to yet another subdomain. kinda fun actually Hope that helps, Sha

  • Hi Mike, A 301 Redirect must always be implemented on the server where your content originates. Basically, it is "catching" the request for a page and saying "send this request to this other page". 301 Redirects happen at the page level, not the domain level. So as Malachi said, it is always best to redirect specific page to relevant replacement page if possible. For you, the solution is slightly different, since your originating content is hosted within the Yahoo! Store system. This Yahoo! document provides the information you need to implement a 301 Redirect from your store to an external domain (toward the bottom of the page). Look for the heading To add a domain redirect for a domain registered outside of Yahoo!:. Hope that helps, Sha

  • Thanks alot for the response Stephen, much appreciated. I read the entire article you suggested and found all the answers I needed in the comments section. Ashamed I didn't find the article myself before posting the question! Tired eyes I agree with you, smartphones are our only real concern going forward.

  • Thanks Ricko. That's is what we're thinking. Put it up and see what happens before blocking pages or anything like that. There is an existing site there already. We're doing a redesign, using a new eCommerce platform. The site currently has a domain authority of 27, and all the category pages urls we'll be able to maintain, and they have page authority, which is good. So, it shouldn't take long for us to see what will happen with the new pages. Thanks.

  • Hi Nigel, As I understand it, the warnings in the crawl report are simply intended to alert you to things that you may not otherwise be aware of on the site. Basically, it is telling you that Roger encountered a 302 (temporary) redirect when trying to access those URL's. If your robots.txt is functioning the way you intended, then you should see this in the "blocked by robots.txt" section of the Crawl Notices. If this is not the case, then it would indicate that perhaps your robots.txt is not correctly configured. If you want to know exactly how Rogerbot interacts with the files on your site when crawling, you could email the help team help [at] seomoz.org and ask. There is a very good post from Lindsay on Robot access in the SEOmoz Blog which is definitely worth a read. Hope that helps,

  • My first suggestion would be to review the installation instructions. It sounds like a step was missed. If the issue remains, try contacting the extension's author via their support forums: http://anything-digital.com/forum/developer/sh404sef/ If you try both steps and still cannot see the control panel, you can e-mail me information for your site and I can take a look: ryan@vitopian.com

  • I would go ahead and add the image alt tags Here is a snippet from an SEOmoz answer I found. SEOmoz data has found ALT text to carry a surprising amount of weight. If you don't abuse it, Google puts solid values on linked images and their ALT data. Found here : SEOmoz article. As for Flash, Google is getting better at reading Flash content. I am not sure if there is a way to do alt text but if so... I'd so it. Google Webmaster Tools about Flash
