Best way to safeguard is to configure 301 redirects from old URL to new URL. This will let Google know its changed and more importantly conserve the link juice.  More info can be found here: http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/redirection

I would take the desription and rewrite it as muchg as you can. Maybe in the beginning just past it so there is already som thing there but over time rewrite and place keywords choosen by you in it.

Hi there, From how you've described it, the risk isn't worth it.  If the current site/domain is associated with unethical linking practices and has received a penalty in the past, which is likely from what you've said, then you'd be associating the negativity of that site with the new one. I'd suggest rectifying the current site, improving the quality and making it a site that Google would want to include in it's index and rank for certain terms, then 301 that newly improved site rather than doing so in its current state. (Public PR is only updated 3 or 4 times per year usually and is a not even worth bothering taking any notice of, the various stats in SEOmoz Pro tools such as Domain Authority and Page Authority, plus MozTrust are much more meaningful figures of which to take notice of). Tough decision but if the price of the website is affordable I would purchase it. You have to remember it is important to analyze the site and do research but your other competitors may pick up underneath you too. If it is in your budget it maybe best to buy it and hold onto it.

Hi Dan What is happening is this - since we have all the months [12], all the dates [31] and years[1921 through 2011] in the form fields, the robot seems to be taking these incrementally and then using the submit button. After the submit button, user is presented with a registration page. While we do want the search to index the rest of the page and the crawl through the rest of the page links we do not want it to crawl through that submit button. I hope I am making sense. Naren

Hi Dan Thank you for the detailed and well explained response. Yea we found the filter results pages and the issue of so many appearing and made a change to stop this. Google doesn't seem to of updated that yet. I wonder if it's worth going through and removing these from Google? We're working on content. The site is pretty new and there are only so many hours but we'll keep pushing on with more content. I'll look at the full report for the keywords and then work through that, thank you. Regards Zac

no there is nothing wrong at all. Generaly you would either force pages to be either one or the other. There is not too many senarios where you would want to allow both.

It does benefit my user, so what you are saying is that I should ignore these warnings.

The 301 Redirect in Volusion only works if the page does not exist. Since /default.asp does exist it doesn't redirect.  Not sure what to do.
