  • Hi There Yes there are differences between the two options you've described. If you simply want to redirect one domain to the other and nothing more, then Option 1 does the trick, quick & simple. If you require services such as email forwarding from the .co.uk to the .com or wish to have further control of the .co.uk from your .com hosting, then Option 2 is the better one to go for. I hope that helps, Regards Simon

  • Full SERPS report give you the following for each of the top 10 entries in the SERPS: Page Authority, mozRank, moxTrust, mT/mR, Total Links, External Links, Followed Links, No-Followed Links, Linking Root Domains, On-Page Analysis Grade, Broad Keyword Usage in Title, Broad Keyword Usage in Document, Keyword Used in URL, KW in Domain, KW Exact Match, Exact Anchor Text Links, % Links w/ Exact Anchor Text, %Linking Root Domains w/ Exact Anchor Text, Partial Anchor Text Links, % Links w/ Particl anchor Text, Partial Anchor Text Root Doms. % linking Root Domains w/ Partial Anchor Text, Domain Authority, Domain mozRank, Domain mozTrust, DmT/DmR, External Links to this domain, Linking Root Domains to this domain, Linking C-Blocks Domains to this doman, Tweets, FB Shares and Google Plus One Shares! This will give you a much broader picture of the current state of play. If you're looking to purchase this domain, then I'd ask questions about what you're planning to do with it? Changing the content / structure etc will potentially cause changes in the SERPS. I'd certainly want to have a better understanding of why the site is ranking in the position it is. Why are you purchasing the domain? I wouldn't purchase a domain just based on the ranking position. I'd want to know how much traffic (in total) the domain gets and how much traffic the core keywords get. I don't know if you're in a position to request this information.

  • Hi Gareth Thanks for that, I did think that is all it would take, but just wasnt sure if their was anything else I could have done to help remove all these pages from the index. The website has under-gone quite a big change in last few weeks with many of its pages being removed, so hopefully google will soon update its index.

  • When you list a domain in WMT you get access to the stats from the subdomain, but if someone else verifies the subdomain then WMT no longer gives you access to the subdomain stats. Now there was no mention that this is the case with domain authority but it is my guess it is. Some sites that had users content of low quality suffered from the panda update, Matt Cutts suggested moving user content to subdomains to separate content. It is my belief that sites that give other users a subdomain as bandcamp.com do do not share domain authority because users list their subdomain in WMT and analytics and stuff. But on your own site you will get domain authority from one to the other. So in short I would move to your own domain, I don’t think you would be getting anything from bandcamp ,and I think you will from your own domain.

  • Greetings Champion! Cannonical Linking is the best way to go! For your conundrum in Example B with the Calvin Green I would find out which URL version is dominant or has the most link juice and structure the redirects to that links. For instance, let us say [http://www.expressgolf.co.uk/shop/clothing/galvin-green/] is the dominant link I would have the copy urls pointing back to that one like so I manage an Ecommerce Site as well, I had the same issue with the categories and what I basically did the same thing for each level of my site, categories that have the url ending in /1, /2, /3 and so on I would redirect to the first page to make that Url stronger. Practically think about what Noindexing or Nofollowing would do, you would lose so much link power that you could harness, With redirects you can focus this power in a more effective manner. Also I was snooping and clicked Golf Clubs which took me to this URL expressgolf.co .uk/shop/clubs Made me realize that you had "clubs" at the end, I would put Golf Clubs because when you do a keyword search for Clubs, Bars come up. Putting a Keyword in the URL can greatly enhance that URL. Just a tip if you want to utilize it or not friend ^.^. Good luck on your quest for Page 1! Justin Smith

  • Interestingly Majestic SEO Site Explorer shows no data from it's historic index, but shows 2 referring domains, 85 Backlinks from it's "fresh" index. Keep building the links!

  • Thanks for the feedback Robert. Sadly nothing exists of the old site. I'm going with your recommendation on the home page and 301ing the inners once live. Thanks again!

  • Thanks to everyone who took the time to answer this question, it has been extremely helpful. Unfortunately my friend (home building/architectural services) did a swap of services which has made this all the more complicated.  Lesson one, never swap for services. It is on a windows server in answer to Alan's question.  The short answer seems to be that the developer does need to incorporate the WP into the Main Site's architecture which should not be a big deal.  In a perfect world, as suggested, is to simply cut the losses and run! Thanks again...

  • I also never had any problems changing the IP. The servers changed (from Switzerland to Germany), but that didn't seem to affect anything - since Amazon's EC2 came up, they seem to be less strict on geolocation. However, here's a video of Mr. Cutts about changing webhosts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfqKKquA_R0&feature=player_embedded He only mentions to change TTL in the DNS settings, so that the change goes faster, so I assume there are no additional points to notice.

  • Hi Chavi, I would say avoid having deep nesting of subdirectories like ".../dir1/dir2/dir3/dir4/dir5/dir6/page.html". Deeply nested subcategory will not have any impact on SEO. If it is not possible to change the structure of your site then i would recommend you the following: -Get a good internal linking structure -Submit your site map to google -Fix broken links -Target low and medium competition keywords Also, get back links for your internal pages (deep linking)
