  • The easiest way to do the https redirect correctly is to use htaccess http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4398951/force-ssl-https-using-htaccess-and-mod-rewrite

  • Every image I saw on the site was indexed in the large versions. I imagine you got this solved already, but let me know if there are any questions.

  • Good question - I still have the same question. I understand the 'by choice', but find that unconvincing so far. Did you come to a solution?

  • Thank you very much. I guess I just need to add in our email and I can safely say that we are good.

  • Hi Ishwar, If you have done so yet it would be best to create your own post. Many people pop in here to help others and when they see this topic as answered they may not look at it. Creating your own post will get the most attention.

  • Hi Ravi, These days Google is very careful in showing rich snippets for certain SERPs, it seems that the markup for your products and reviews is OK though as it passes the tests in the structured data testing tool: https://developers.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool/ you might want to look into the first 10 warnings though.

  • Hi Ashley, To clarify, this is just a section of the page, right? The page will still have essentially the same information for both mobile and desktop users, but tailored to their devices? It's fine to remove or change up inconsequential elements of the page. Webmasters have had to do this from the start, for ads, complicated navigation, and other page elements that are helpful on a desktop page but cluttered on a phone screen. If this content is the majority of the page, though, and sends a different message, you should probably create a separate page for mobile visitors. If this is the case, let me know and I can follow up with more specific recommendations. Good luck! Kristina

  • If it makes things easier, based on your settings in that campaign you've always been crawling "all sites," including http://domain.com and http://www.domain.com. If this is due to a redirect, I'd guess that it's due to a redirect having been removed. Have there been any changes made on that site recently?

  • They are two different sites and entities, hence no link to .com will have an influence to the .co.uk domain.

  • Using canonical IS NOT the solution, because if you use canonical the FAQ pages of the canonicalized websites are going to be deindexed. So, just do it if you really don't care about the traffic those answers can generate for your sites (as you can imagine, this is an ironic suggestion...). Just use the hreflang, because Google in the last months has become quite smart in understanding that it means that you consider those pages relevant enough for the geo-targeted audiences to not filter them out even if they are substantially identical between country versions. Said that, try to differentiate the FAQ pages (better localization of the language. i.e.: English UK is slightly different than American English), or even offering a local number for phone inquiries and localized email address for question via email. In general, it is not a good idea using the crossdomain canonical in International SEO, and it should be used just in exceptional cases.

  • Yeah i was thinking the same.... The interesting thing is we've removed the redirect page a week ago and replaced it with javascript redirect code. is that a good practice?

  • thanks monica, ive been doing the same with my h1s and the individual product pages. It's certainly time consuming. ill avoid the custom meta sections as well.

  • Right. I get that they don't exist on your site currently, but when they did Google indexed them so they exist in some form within Google, but Google had never been told they had permanently moved (via 301). The good news is that you don't have to resurrect the entire site. You can simply modify the appropriate file (htaccess if you're on Apache, IIS if Window's server) and make certain that Google knows any page it's looking for at devsite.yoursite.com is now at www.correcturl.com.  Cheers!

  • That's true, and you may be right. But as ignorant as I am, it's the very first time I read url slashes canonicalization is not best practice. And I truly mean you are probably right, but yet I would like to see some piece of proof, like a video of Matt Cutts, an article on searchenginejournal, or something, before to call what was once considered best practice dead and buried.

  • From what I see, duplicate content has replaced it. The only question is whether it's yours or not. A search for "It is possible to pay for the cover personally from your net income in which case benefits in payment are tax free." shows this page: http://bit.ly/1DnKp1S See how Google only shows one then gives you the "repeat the search" link? They're only showing one version and it's not the one you linked above. It looks like you have duplicate content here as well: http://www.contractorfinancials.com/protection/ And here: http://www.freelancermoney.co.uk/income-protection.php So Google used to rank one but has chosen another to rank now.  You seem to have a LOT of sites up and lots of duplicate content not sorted out very well. I didn't dig far enough to see if you own all these sites but the logos & colours are very similar and duplicate so I assume you do.
