Www to nonwww - domain authority drop build it back up plan
Hi George, wow, I never thought id see a break down of info so detailed for the website. It makes things alot easier. Screamingfrog is amazing. confirmed it showing www.finnmoto.com.au as status code 301. most pages are 200 (ok) can clearly see I need to work on metadescription, H1 and H2, eventually clean up metakeywords. ill need to learn more about directives; canonical, canonicalised, etc... everything else looks pretty good I guess. Your not wrong about the dust settling; submited 115 urls 26th oct. google has only index 46 urls 30th oct. (in webmasters the www. is showing 101 indexed of 115). should I be turning off the www. in google webmasters now, or just leave it and wait.

Facing Link Crisis
There was a time when such huge influxes of links meant nada to Google et al...my own blog site went up 25k in one day and didn't hurt us a bit (story here ) but that may not be true today.... And as others have said, there's not enough data here to make a valid opinion as I see it....i.e. we need more to try to help, eh!

Link Building
Link Exchanges have become a thing of the past as far as a direct link exchange (put your link here and I'll put your link here) and could harm your website. Here is another Q&A Forum asking if link exchanges are good or not and another one that may be helpful. To be safe and utilize link exchanges in a white hat, clean, relevant way, I believe mutually agreeing to linking to certain articles can be considered safe. Creating another article linking to your article (or blog) is what I mean or editing an existing article to add value. I don't think just having a random link in the footer or some place else on the website provides value is what I'm saying. You may know all of this, but someone will come along questions link exchanges and provide insight anyways. As well, I think it can establish a ground for this conversation of seeing relevant, high QUALITY content. I will take a look at your content and private message you if that's okay. Thanks, Cole

Questions About Link Building .
Cut the rope and run! To build links you need high authority (mixed with some lower authority), highly relevant in context sites that suit your niche. Imagine how many thousands of niches there out there, now imagine that company has such a complex portfolio of opportunities it can cater for anyone who buys a 'package'. It's not going to happen! That would be like the holy grail. You would be far better spending on time $200 for 1 single powerful link than spend $xxx + for the privilege of getting penalized. You'd be better off investing time in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkLFlaWxgJA http://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo/growing-popularity-and-links http://moz.com/blog/category/link-building

Is it Good For seo?
This used to be recommended years ago when Google didn't have the crawling power they do now. Today Google does regular crawls everywhere, it is possible that submitting the URL may gain a day or so advantage, it just depends on how often Google crawls the particular site you acquired a link on. Obviously the more popular the site the more likely Google does frequent crawls.

Etsy.com --Getting link juice through other pages on search results?
I'm researching Etsy and I think its eye opening that you remind us Etsy has its own algorithm. I suppose you mean within the Etsy URL site search. But outside of Etsy ~ now that's Google's territory! Tons and tons of people are complaining that Etsy sales are down significantly. So is this coming because Google has tossed Etsy aside? Or is this because of a change in the Etsy algorithm? Is there anywhere outside of Etsy that keeps track of Etsys performance in Google search?

Major Dip in Keyword Rank - Why?
Also, I'm realizing that the 5% number is rather vague. To put it into perspective, it's just under our average conversion rate for that timeframe.

Can a feeder site link directly to the main site?
Yes, I'd definatley do that. You are just cross-linking form other domains onto your own site. If the domains are registered in different IP Ranges even better.

I know its a silly question. but how do i get the best backlinks.
Moosa, the post you have written is a good one, out of curiosity though, what are your thoughts on the positioning of the link in the body of a webpage? It has been said that a link at the top of the body content vs. down the bottom is more favourable? Is that something you agree with? Samafaq, I'm a great believer that the best way to get links is through great content that is well marketed and publicised. This is not easy to achieve, but if it can be mastered and done effectively, it is usually what will produce natural links that best indicate to Google an authoritative site. Can i get a list of internal and external links from moz?
Hi, So it sounds like you have ~20 internal links per page, which is not unreasonable and shouldn't be a point of concern. However, if you are still worried, then I'd worry less about finding a specific list of links to dig into - at this scale that likely won't be very helpful or actionable. I'd recommend that you reviewed the "Top Pages" report in OSE to see which pages have a large bulk of links. Then I'd do a review of the internal site architecture looking at the major elements (top and side navigation, footer links, any dynamic menu systems) and see whether there are places just to tighten that up a little. You can use what you learnt from the 'top pages' report to help inform this review. However, as I said - I'd certainly not feel you need to go overboard unless you have additional reasons to think that this might be a problem. Good luck!

How many links per month on average?
Hello! I know when you are first getting started you really want to set obtainable goals and benchmarks of acceptable link building volumes - don't focus on this. Instead, focus on realistic timelines to launch exceptional content. Launching this content will make the link building exponentially easier, but NOT automatic. I'm not talking about just another blog post, top-XX list, or infographic here. I am talking about something that is so cool people will want to talk about it. If you are in a boring niche, think parallel niches. If you are in a narrow niche, think broader. For example, I am in the East TN travel niche, but my team recently created a cool digital asset for the whole country that had good success. Once you build the content, you should also set realistic outreach goals. Don't reach out to TechCrunch, HuffPo, etc. unless it is the type of content they regularly post. Instead, look at who is linking to similar assets (use OSE, AHREFS, Majestic, etc.) and start there. Personalize pitches for each site and make the pitch as irresistible as possible. Depending on the asset type, it may be possible to involve some of the influential site owners/bloggers in creative process. At the end of the day numbers and quality don't matter as much as creating high-quality, exceptional content on a regular basis. You will have some strike-outs, but you will also have some home-runs. The process for content creation and the promotion of that content is what you need to focus on not the number OR quality of the links (initially).

How Does Google Treat Scapper Sites?
If you're worried about scraper sites--at Moz, there are a ton of sites scraping our blog content, for example--I strongly recommend implementing the rel=canonical tag on your site. Often scrapers grab the entire HTML of your page, and thus, they will grab rel=canonical, which will signal back to search engines that your content is the original content.

Quickest way to build links?
In my opinion there are no quick or easy ways to build links after Google's Penguin update. A better question would be: "How to build the highest quality links?". or - "How to earn links from high quality sources?" Also see: http://moz.com/blog/google-algorithm-cheat-sheet-panda-penguin-hummingbird http://www.hiswebmarketing.com/penguin-not-just-about-bad-links/ http://themoralconcept.net/pandalist.html (mainly about Panda, but also a few very interesting link related insights)

Disavow data for non-manual penalty
If you're going through with link removal and building a disavow list, you might as well log all the outreach efforts and results - it really doesn't take that long. Just note when you sent emails, when they replied, what they said, and if the link was removed. I'd upload that to Google Docs and include the link in the disavow file so on the off chance a real person looks into your site, they'll know you did the work.

Competitor spamming and winning
What are some of the black hat things you guys would do if you were to set up an independent site that's completely separate of your main one? Some of the things aside from those mentioned above that seem to be working for competitors?

Strange new links being picked up in Webmaster tools affecting SERPs
Hi Rufus, If it's a minor drop, then it might just be temporary. Are you still building links to your site now? Like you, I normally ignore scraper sites. They sometimes give me a lot of good links lol ill gauge it again after 3 months. If it's effect is questionable, then I end up disavowing them right there if it's a really bad looking site. Some scraper sites are really structurally sound and have unique content so I leave those out.
